Description
This document outlines the functional changes and defect fixes for the HP Linear Tape File System (HP
LTFS) software introduced between build version 1.1.0 and 1.2.0.

Devices supported
All HP Ultrium LTO-5 SAS standalone tape drives and media and newer generations.
NOTE:
Automation drives are not supported.

HP LTFS supports:
• RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.4 and later (32-bit and 64-bit)
• SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLES) 11 (32-bit and 64-bit)
• Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) and Snow Leopard (10.6, 32-bit kernel only)

Enhancements
• Conforms with new LTFS Format Specification Version 2.0.0
• Maintains backward compatibility with Version 1.0 formatted tapes, and provides built-in automatic
migration mechanism to Version 2.0.0 format. See the LTFS User Guide for more information.
• Improved mount time by optimizing sequence of operations on prior dismount
• Improved parsing and handling of index information
• Supports standardized virtual extended attribute (VEA) names. Note that VEA names used in the
previous release of LTFS are obsolete and no longer available; the new standardized names should
be used instead.
• New option added to ltfs command: -o sync_type= to specify when the in-memory copy of
the index should be flushed to tape. Previously this happened only when the volume was unmounted;
now the default behavior is to flush the index every five minutes (sync_type=time@5). An addi-
