6.0 HP X9000 File Serving Software Installation (TA768-96041, October 2011)

Boot server blades
NOTE: If the server blades were powered on when the previous step completed (that is, one or
more capacity blocks powered on after the server blades), cycle the power on all server blades
again.
Complete the following steps:
1. Connect a LAN cable from a laptop to a port on one of the ProCurve switches.
Set the TCP/IP properties of the laptop LAN port to address 172.16.3.200, subnet
255.255.248.0. You should now be able to make an ssh connection to the blade servers.
The address of blade 1 is factory-configured to 172.16.3.1. The rest of the server addresses
should follow on consecutively, so just increment the last octet by one each time to connect.
2. Perform the following steps on each server blade in turn:
a. Connect an ssh session to the server blade and log in. Use the username root and
password hpinvent.
b. Run the storage diagnostic utility:
# exds_stdiag
Resolve any error conditions reported by exds_stdiag, and then re-run the command
to verify that the errors are corrected.
Verify the system
Use the following commands to verify the system:
Run ibrix_health -l on the management console. For more information about this
command, see the HP X9720 Network Storage System Administrator Guide.
Run exds_stdiag on each server blade to validate that the storage is seen by every server.
Manually compare the output to verify that it is the same for each server.
Configure vendor storage
Determine whether vendor storage has been set by running the following command:
# ibrix_vs -l
NAME TYPE IP PROXYIP
---- ---- -- -------
#
Register vendor storage using the ibrix_vc command to post alerts and storage warnings to the
management console. For example, if the nodes have the prefix kudos, run the following command:
# ibrix_vs r n kudos t exds I 172.16.1.1 U exds P hpinvent
Configure network parameters.
The X9720 Network Storage System automatically reserves eth0 and eth3 and creates a bonded
device, bond0. This is the management network. Although eth0 and eth3 are physically connected
to the Flex-10 Virtual Connect (VC) modules, the VC domain is configured so that this network is
not seen by the user network.
With this configuration, eth1 and eth2 are available for connecting each server blade to the site
network. To connect to the site network, you must connect one or more of the allowed ports as
"uplinks" to your site network. These are the ports marked in green in the following figure. If you
connect several ports to the same switch in the site network, all ports must use the same media
type.
As delivered from the factory, the X9720 Network Storage System uses ALB (mode=6) for bond0.
The current best practice recommendation is that mode 1 (Round Robin) should be used for all
