IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR
NEW TAPE DRIVE
Installation requires a SAS host controller or host bus adapter (HBA) that supports tape.
For the most up-to-date information about supported SAS HBAs and cabling
configurations, refer to www.hp.com/storage/spock and be sure to check the details
of the specific tape drive and server combination that you require.
For detailed, step-by-step installation instructions, refer to the User Guide from the
Documentation link on the HP Tape CD-ROM.

Before you install your tape drive, always refer to www.hp.com/storage/spock to find out:
• Is connection to your SAS server supported?
• Can you connect to the host SAS controller or do you need to purchase an additional
HBA?

This poster describes how to connect an
HP StoreEver LTO-6 Ultrium 6250, LTO-5 Ultrium
3000, LTO-4 Ultrium 1760, LTO-3 Ultrium 920 and LTO-2 Ultrium 448 SAS
tape drive to
an external mini-SAS port on a server using the supplied cable.

2 Connect to an external SAS port
A SAS cable for connection to an external mini-SAS (SFF-8088) port is provided with the
Ultrium tape drive. If you wish to connect the tape drive to an Infiniband (SFF-8470)
external SAS connector, you must purchase the appropriate cable, or purchase and install
a recommended HBA and associated drivers before installing the tape drive. See
www.hp.com/storage/spock for recommended products.
TIP:
The CD-ROM contains a driver install package for Windows. We recommend
that you use the installer package to install the drivers
BEFORE
you connect the tape
drive.
1. Connect the SAS cable to the server
1 SAS Cable 2 SAS connector
2. Connect the cables to the tape drive
1 SAS Cable 2 Power connector 3 Power switch
3. Power up the tape drive and server
Switch on the tape drive and power up the server. Watch the boot screen carefully after
installation. Check to see that the new SAS tape drive is listed in the boot sequence.
If there are any errors or unexpected messages go back and check the SAS cabling
carefully.
