Storage Management Overview
This section provides an overview of the components that make up the NAS
storage structure. A complete discussion of the components and their relationships
is available in the administration guide.
Caution: This section on storage management and Windows LDM is required
reading material for the NAS administrator. This section develops the concepts
and requirements that serve as the basis for successfully using a HP
StorageWorks NAS device. Failure to read this section and the appropriate
sections on storage management in the administration guide may lead to data
loss or file corruption.
Storage Management Elements
Figure 5 provides an illustration of the various storage components of the
NAS b3000 v2. Storage is broken up into six major divisions:
■ Storage elements
■ Logical storage elements
■ Persistent Storage Manager Elements
■ File system elements
■ File-sharing elements (Single Server Implementations)
■ Cluster Server Elements
Each of these elements is composed of the previous level’s elements. Figure 5
below illustrates an MSA1000 as the storage example. Any storage device
supported by the NAS b3000 v2 can be substituted in the diagram. ACU refers to
the storage configuration software utilized by the MSA1000.
