Important notes and workarounds
This section identies important notes and workarounds specic to the EVA3000/5000 hardware and
VCS software
. Operating constraints for related software applications are included in the following
documents:

Connecting an EVA3000/5000 to a 4 GB McData switch
When connecting an EVA3000/5000 to a 4 GB-capable McData switch, do not connect any of the EVA
ports to port 0 on the McData switch. Other wise, the storage system will not start up.
The po rt 0 restriction will remain effective until a rmware x is available.

SFP cables
An EVA300
0/5000 running VCS 4.007 that is connected to a B rocade 4100 switch with 2 GB SFP
cables ma
y intermittently experience a login failure. This issue is not experienced if the Brocade switch
has 4 GB SFP cables.
To resolve this issue, do one of the following:
Power do
wn and then power up the storage system.
Remove the cable from the port that is experiencing the login failure and then reconnect it.
Upgrading in an HP Continuous Access EVA environment
The following restrictions apply when upgrading to VCS 4.007 on EVA3000/5000 storage systems
running Continuous Access EVA. This is only an overview of some of the steps involved in using HP
Continuous Access EVA. For more information on HP Continuous Access EVA, ac cess the d ocumentation
using the link in Table 3.
The upgrade process should be completed within one week (168 hours) . The time window begins
with the upgrade of the rst storage system. It concludes when all storage systems with a direct or
indirect Continuous Access relationship to the rst storage system have been upgraded.
Ensure that all storage systems involved in a DR relationship are fully functional with no failed
hardware.
When using multip le Continuous Access relation ships, make sure the following conditions are m et:
No more than t wo VCS versions (either 3.028 or 4.007) are running.
