1 Using the HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager The HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager simplifies the task of recovering data from the HP StoreVirtual solution by enabling you to find and mount snapshots from your HP StoreVirtual Storage from a single application. Consider the following when using Recovery Manager: • Snapshots must be mounted before you can search for and recover folders or files.
Supported versions of LeftHand OS • LeftHand OS Versions 9.0 or later Requirements for using the Recovery Manager • You must have administrator privileges to run the Recovery Manager. • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 must be installed on any server where you plan to install the Recovery Manager. • If you are running version 1.2 or later and use the CLI to set auto-mount policies, the CLI version must be 11.x or later.
Opening the Manage Group Credentials dialog box Do one of the following: • Select File→Manage Group Credentials from the menu bar. • From the Manage Snapshots window, click Add to open the Manage Group Credentials dialog box. • From the Auto-Mount Policies window, click Add Policy. Then click Add to open the Manage Group Credentials dialog box. Adding credentials You can add a management group using an IP address or the management group name. Adding a management group by IP address 1. 2.
Deleting credentials Deleting management group credentials from the Recovery Manager has the following implications for mounted snapshots and Auto-Mount Policies: • Snapshots that were mounted by the Recovery Manager are no longer visible in the Recovery Manager when the management group credentials are deleted. However, those snapshots remain mounted on the system until they are manually unmounted.
1. 2. 3. Select File→Preferences from the menu bar. In the Preferences window, select one of the following options in the Configure Mount Transport box: • Mount Snapshot using iSCSI • Mount Snapshot using Fibre Channel if available Click OK to save the preferred transport type. Setting the snapshot display The snapshot mount status column appears in the Manage Snapshots window on the Snapshots tab.
b. In the Download New Installers to Directory field, configure the upgrades download directory. NOTE: A path on a network must be stored as a UNC name. Mapped drives from the user session are unknown to the Online Upgrade Service. To retrieve files via network shared folders, the Online Upgrade Service requires that both computers are in a shared windows domain. The service might not have access rights to a shared directory, depending on how permissions are configured for that network share.
3. Click Close to finish. If the Online Upgrade Service is started, Recovery Manager sends automatic notifications to the notification area when an upgrade is downloaded. A Recovery Manager icon also appears in the notification area with a notification. If you click on the icon, you can choose one of these options: • Clear Notification – the Recovery Manager icon disappears until the next time an upgrade is downloaded.
NOTE: The Auto-Mount Policy window in the Recovery Manager does not indicate if the policy is added for a volume set. The Recovery Manager can only provide volume set information on snapshots, not volumes. Editing a policy Editing an auto-mount policy entails changing the number of snapshots to have continuously mounted. • If you edit a policy to retain 0 (zero) snapshots, the policy remains in place. However, all snapshots mounted as part of that policy will be unmounted.
Recovering files and folders After manually mounting snapshots or using snapshots mounted by an auto-mount policy, use the File and Folder Recovery wizard to discover files and folders in mounted snapshots, and recover selected items. Search mounted snapshots using file and folder names, wild cards, and optional filters. If you do not find the applicable items, you can mount and search for additional snapshots from the wizard. Requirements • At least one snapshot must be mounted to run the wizard.
3. Optional: Set filters for the snapshots you are looking for. Click the arrow to the right of Filter to open the filter. See Table 1 (page 13) for descriptions of the filters. Click Next. Table 1 Optional filters for searching for files and folders Filter Definition Start Date Snapshot creation date range End Date 4. 5. 6. Management Group Management group name Volume Volume name Snapshot Snapshot name Review the results of the search in the Select Files or Folders window.
4. Click Close to finish. Filtering the view of auto-mount service events You can filter displayed events by level, event ID, start date, and end date: 1. If the Windows Events Auto Mount Service window is not displayed, select File→Service Status from the menu bar. 2. Click the Filter drop-down arrow and enter your filter criteria. 3. Click Apply Filter to retrieve only the events according to your filter criteria. 4. When you are finished viewing events, click Close.
2. In the Check for Updates window, click Refresh ( ). The Check for Updates window displays the currently installed version of Recovery Manager and when it was installed. If available, newer Recovery Manager versions are displayed. Each version is identified by the version number, the file name, and its status – either available for download or available for installation.
Table 2 Issues and solutions (continued) 16 Issue Solution After a manually mounted snapshot is deleted, the iSCSI targets remain. Remove the iSCSI targets using the iSCSI initiator. Attempting to recover files results in an error message, “Access denied.” Recovering files from the Recycle Bin that is on a mounted snapshot is not supported.
