Figure 9: Selection of growing a thin volume implying an error
Suggested Actions:
Select another volume that meets the capacity requirement. One of the following actions would resolve the issue:
Select a volume from the concrete pool (SYMMETRIX+<Array ID>+C+<PoolID>) to grow up to the required capacity.
The selection of grow volume on a concrete pool shown in Figure 10 would successfully meet the requirement.
Figure 10: Selecting a thick volume to grow
Select a thin volume that already meets the capacity requirement
Create a new volume that to meet the capacity requirement.
In case of automated selection of candidates (when Matrix infrastructure orchestration is auto-generating the storage
pool entries), to avoid SPM listing the candidates for grow volume, use one or both the following requirements in the
SPM storage template:
Resource Existence: The default value is set to “Use existing volume” with Level set to “Required”. Change this
setting to “Create new volume” and Level to “Recommended”, shown in the figure 11. This will ensure that SPM will
first list the candidates for creating new volumes followed by candidates to grow. In case of automated selection of
candidates, Matrix chooses the first candidate, and thus SPM will always create a new volume with the required size.
Figure 11: Prefer to create a new volume rather grow an existing volume
Volume Committed Capacity (percentage): The default value is set to 0%, which is meant to create a thin volume.
Change this value to 100%, shown in the figure 12, to make sure that SPM will not list any candidates that are thin
volumes.
