HP-UX Virtual Partitions 6.0 Administrator Guide

CPU, I/O, memory
The summary and detailed machine-readable memory allocation displays include memory in total
megabytes. The CPU section includes the number of CPUs assigned to the virtual partition. The
virtual I/O section defines the virtual I/O devices assigned to the virtual partition.

vPar run-states
The vPars v6 product tracks the state of each vPar and displays it in the vparstatus output under
the heading of RunState. The run-state allows the administrator to view the current state of each
vPar. Knowing the run-state of a vPar is important when modifying the configuration as commands
such as vparmodify require the vPar to be in a particular run-state for the operation to be
successful.
Inactive vPars
Following are the possible run-states of an inactive virtual partition:
DOWN. The virtual partition is fully halted. This could be the result of a normal /etc/
shutdown -h command, a vparreset -h command or vparreset -g command, or
after it has been created.
DEFINED. The virtual partition definition exists in the current virtual partition database, but its
configuration is in standby (has the attribute active_config=false). Defined, but not active
configurations do not count against resources used on the VSP. A vPar configuration must be
defined as active (active_config=true) before it can be started.
