Description These release notes describe Version 11.5 software for the HP StoreVirtual Storage product, which contains the following components: NOTE: If you are running the initial release of LeftHand OS (version 11.5.00.0669), you will be prompted to upgrade to the revised release. The revised release addresses a version incompatibility in Network RAID configurations. HP strongly recommends upgrading to the revised release.
• HP StoreVirtual 4130 • HP P4900 G2 • HP P4800 G2 • HP P4500 G2 • HP P4300 G2 • HP P4000 VSA Update recommendation HP recommends that all customers running an earlier version of HP StoreVirtual Storage software upgrade to HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 11.5. As a best practice, HP recommends upgrading StoreVirtual Storage software during times of non-peak activity to minimize any potential application impact. Supersedes information HP StoreVirtual Storage Version 11.
• • • HP StoreVirtual Recovery Manager updates: ◦ Service monitoring for Auto-Mount Service ◦ Online upgrade feature added ◦ Auto-Mount Service can mount remote volumes HP StoreVirtual Application Aware Snapshot Manager updates: ◦ Authentication Console updated ◦ Login settings wizard and controlling IP address wizard added Improved performance when executing CLI commands in large management groups Fixes Version 11.
• When logging in to a storage system after rebooting all storage systems from the CMC, login will complete successfully. Previously, an error message (such as Unable to login : Socket closed) could display and require you to re-enter the storage system credentials. • The HP StoreVirtual 4730 no longer experiences performance degradation when generating the following reports: the Hardware Diagnostic Report or a Support Bundle in the CMC, or hpadu logs using the Systems Management Homepage.
• To enhance security of the LeftHand OS software, the software has been revised to verify that x11 port forwarding is disabled and to disable ciphers that support less than 128-bit cipher strength. • Improved CLI performance when using commands like getClusterInfo, getGroupInfo, and getVolumeInfo in a management group with a large number of iSCSI sessions.
• Upgrading to Windows Server 2012 from Windows Server 2008 R2 on a system with DSM for MPIO installed no longer causes HP StoreVirtual DSM for MPIO and disks to become inoperable. • The HP StoreVirtual VSA Installer for Microsoft Hyper-V now correctly displays the available virtual disk space. • The Japanese version of the CMC now contains the correct localized text for the "Exchange storage system" and "Swap storage system" options.
Centralized Management Console (CMC) • An error message about missing files was displayed when downloading files from FTP using a proxy server. • The CMC did not accept a DNS domain name if any domain label started with a number. For example, if a user entered abc.8net.com, the CMC displayed the error message, Invalid DNS Domain Name abc.8net.com. • When using an HTTP proxy server, applying an upgrade could fail due to the increased size of the upgrade file.

Workarounds HP StoreVirtual LeftHand OS Command Line Interface • CLI does not allow using equal sign (=) and double quotes (") in username/password credentials of any CLI commands If an administrative user name or password uses characters in the CMC that are not allowed in the CLI, CLI commands that use those credentials will not succeed. To resolve this issue, do one of the following: ◦ Change the existing credentials in the CMC to use characters allowed in both the CMC and CLI.
• A disassociated Active Directory user can still execute CLI commands After a user is removed from an Active Directory group, the user can still successfully execute CLI commands. To resolve this issue, perform one of the following actions: • ◦ Reboot the entire management group. ◦ Create and run a script containing five getnsminfo commands from five different authorized users on the storage system that the user is logged in to. This will flush the user out of the cache.
• When creating an administrative group, the permission level given to the first management area (Management Groups, RAID, Drive Hot Swap) applies to all other management areas, regardless of what permissions are assigned to the other areas A new user assigned to an administrative group with mixed permissions will have the same permissions for all areas that the group has set for the first area.
• Set boot from SAN using the Emulex HBA To use boot from SAN with the Emulex HBA, use Emulex OneCommand and set the boot LUN to 5. • Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 require hot fixes to avoid volume availability issues when using Fibre Channel Transient errors may cause issues whereby an MPIO disk device could incorrectly be removed from the host after a short duration Fibre Channel link failure. This can result in data unavailability issues and possibly data loss issues.
• ◦ If the drive is running older firmware, update the drive firmware. ◦ If iLO still shows the drive status Degraded, then replace the drive. In the HP StoreVirtual 4730, when two drives are unavailable and the hot spare is rebuilding, the Device status is not reported properly on the RAID Setup tab in the CMC The status remains at 0% estimating.
• Upgrade issue with reimaged HP StoreVirtual 4530 with 4 TB drives If an HP StoreVirtual 4530 has 4 TB drives and requires reimaging, if the 10.5 System Recovery DVD is used, the reimaging will be successful, but the 4530 cannot be upgraded to 11.0. To prevent this issue, use the 11.0 System Recovery DVD if reimaging is required. • Upgrade from 10.5 to 11.
• During an online upgrade from 8.5 to 10.x or later with storage systems on different subnets, I/O stops for approximately 2 minutes No data is lost but I/O to the volume may stop long enough for applications to time out. If a timeout occurs, the application must be restarted manually. If there is a critical application involved that cannot tolerate an interruption in service, then an upgrade requiring a double hop should be scheduled during a time when the application can be taken offline.
iSCSI • iSCSI sessions fail if server configuration is changed Due to a code enhancement, if any of the following items for the iSCSI server configuration are changed, all server connections will be disconnected: ◦ iSCSI initiator node name ◦ CHAP required or not required ◦ CHAP name, target secret, and initiator secret (if CHAP is required) This change ensures that the connections be re-established as soon as changes are implemented.
Remote Copy • While cross–version Remote Copy is occurring from 10.0 or later to 8.5 management groups, if copying halts because the cluster is full, the CMC displays the "See Alarms Window" error message, although the 8.5 management group does not have the Alarms window The Version 9.x and greater Alarms and Events feature is not compatible with pre-9.x versions of software. Review the Alarms window for Version 9.x or later management groups.
To resolve this issue, run the update command and indicate the individual provider (for example, Update-StorageProviderCache -Discoverylevel -Name 10.1.16.113 ). If you have a lot of providers and run the update command without a specific provider indicated, the command could take a long time to finish.
SRA • The Reprotect operation fails with an error message for cross-version management groups An error prevents the Reprotect operation from creating remote schedules when running in a mixed management group environment. This occurs when the remote group is running a later version than the primary group and remote schedules have not been previously configured. In this scenario, the Failover operation will fail with an error creating the remote schedule.
To prevent this issue from occurring, do the following: 1. Identify all the volumes that are included in this recovery plan. For each of these volumes: a. Verify that the remote schedule is missing from the "new primary" group to the "new remote" group. If this remote schedule exists, continue with step 2. b. Find the paused remote schedule that is from the "old primary" group to the "old remote" group.
2. Select RdmFilter and clear the box RdmFilter.HbaIsShared. This allows local disks to be used as RDMs. 3. Click OK to save this change. 4. You may need to rescan the disks in order to see the RDMs. If so, on the same Configuration tab, select Storage in the Hardware section. Click Rescan All. 5. Select the VSA VM on the host and click Edit Settings. 6. For each Hard disk device listed as a Mapped Raw LUN, record the Physical LUN, which will look like the following: vml.
• Windows 2012 Event Viewer Event ID 4010 reports an unsupported configuration of the Hyper-V Linux Integration Services (LIS) in the StoreVirtual VSA 2014 You can ignore this warning message. This configuration has been thoroughly tested by HP Storage. This issue will be addressed in a future release.
