HP StorageWorks TapeAssure service version 1.1 User guide (EH957-90925, September 2010)
• Mid range libraries – MSL – The library controller pulls the support ticket (out of band) and sends
it to Command View TL for analysis and presentation. Note that the MSL 5000/6000 libraries
are not supported by TapeAssure in this release.
• Enterprise libraries – EML and ESL-e – The support ticket is pulled (out of band) from within the
library by the Interface Manager card and sent to Command View TL for analysis and presentation.
The mechanism for pulling the support ticket is specific to the device but in all cases, the tickets are
sent to Command View TL for analysis and presentation, which has several advantages:
• The analysis and presentation is common for all device types.
• All data is consolidated into one location. This allows for individual tapes to be tracked even if
they are moved from system to system.
Supported configurations
The TapeAssure service supports:
• HP LTO 3 and later tape drives with SCSI or SAS interfaces
• Operating systems:
• Windows XP (x86)

• Windows 7 (x64)
• Windows 2003 server (x86, x64, IA64)

• Command View TL version 2.6 or later
TapeAssure is supported on the following libraries:
• 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader and MSL2024, MSL4048, MSL8048, and MSL8096 Tape Libraries
with LTO-4 and later generation tape drives (all interfaces)
• EML and ESL-e libraries with LTO-3 and later generation tape drives (all interfaces)
• MSL5000/6000 series libraries with LTO-3 and later generation tape drives
Typical configurations
TapeAssure is very flexible in the configurations it can support. HP recommends using a single
Command View TL management station to consolidate the data.
HP TapeAssure supports the following configurations:
• Single server, single tape drive
This is a very common configuration. In this case, the TapeAssure service should be installed on
the server. Command View TL can be installed anywhere that the TapeAssure service can access
across your company intranet - including the backup server itself.
• Single server, multiple tape drives
