Loading and unloading
Inserting cartridges

1. Insert a compatible cartridge into the slot on the front panel. As the cartridge is inserted, the drive
takes it and performs a load sequence.
NOTE:
The illustration shows an 8 mm cartridge. These cartridges are thicker than earlier-format DDS
cartridges and can only be used with HP StorageWorks DAT 320 and DAT 160 tape drives. See
“Data cartridges” on page 49 for more information about tape drive and cartridge compatibility.
2. The Ready light flashes green while the drive performs its load sequence. When the cartridge is
loaded, the Ready light shows steady green.
Removing cartridges
CAUTION:
Never try to remove a cartridge before it is fully ejected.
