HP B-series Fabric OS 7.1.0c Release Notes (5697-2892, October 2013 - includes all 7.1.0x versions)
Fabric OS feature compatibility in native connectivity modes
Some earlier versions of Fabric OS supported E_Port connectivity with M-EOS-based products.
With the introduction of HP Network Advisor, DCFM has been put into sustaining mode.
Recommended migration paths to Fabric OS 7.1.0c
Migrating from Fabric OS 7.0.0x
Any 8 Gb/s or 16 Gb/s platform running any Fabric OS 7.0.0x release can be non-disruptively
upgraded to Fabric OS 7.1.0c. However, users must pay close attention to the following before
upgrading either of the HP SN8000B SAN Directors to Fabric OS 7.1.0c:
• If the upgrade on an HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP SN8000B 4-Slot
SAN Director from Fabric OS 7.0.0x to Fabric OS 7.1.0c is blocked due to the absence of
the Enterprise ICL license, users must first upgrade the HP SN8000B SAN Directors to Fabric
OS 7.0.1x or later, install the Enterprise ICL license, and then proceed with upgrading the
firmware to Fabric OS 7.1.0c.
Migrating from Fabric OS 7.0.1x or 7.0.2x
Any 8 Gb/s or 16 Gb/s platform running Fabric OS 7.0.1x or 7.0.2x release can be
non-disruptively upgraded to Fabric OS 7.1.0c. However, users must pay close attention to the
following before upgrading either of the HP SN8000B SAN Directors to Fabric OS 7.1.0c:
• If the upgrade on an HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP SN8000B 4-Slot
SAN Director from Fabric OS 7.0.0x to Fabric OS 7.1.0c is blocked due to the absence of
the Enterprise ICL license, users must first install the Enterprise ICL license on the HP SN8000B
8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch or the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director, and then
proceed with upgrading the firmware to Fabric OS 7.1.0c.
Migrating from Fabric OS 6.4.x
HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP DC04 SAN Director Switch units running any Fabric
OS 6.4.x release must be upgraded to Fabric OS 7.0.x before they can be non-disruptively
upgraded to Fabric OS 7.1.0c.
Any 8 Gb/s platforms (other than HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP DC04 SAN Director
Switch) operating at Fabric OS 6.4.1a or later must be upgraded to Fabric OS 7.0.0x or later
before non-disruptively upgrading to Fabric OS 7.1.0c.
For 8 Gb/s platforms (other than HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP DC04 SAN Director
Switch) operating at a Fabric OS version earlier than Fabric OS 6.4.1a must first be upgraded to
Fabric OS 6.4.1a or later, then they must be upgraded to Fabric OS 7.0.x before non-disruptively
upgrading to Fabric OS 7.1.0c.
IMPORTANT: Upgrading these platforms from any Fabric OS 6.4.x release earlier than Fabric
OS 6.4.1a to Fabric OS 7.0.0x causes disruption to FC traffic.
Fabric OS Upgrade and Downgrade Special Considerations
The HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch/HP DC04 SAN Director Switch units running any
Fabric OS 7.0.x or Fabric OS 7.1.0x can be non-disruptively upgraded to Fabric OS 7.1.0c. This
upgrade is non-disruptive to both FC and FCoE traffic.
The HP B-series MP Router Blade (FR4-18i) and the HP SAN Director 6 Port 10 Gb/s ISL Blade
(FC10-6) are not supported on the HP DC SAN Backbone Director/HP DC04 SAN Director Switches
and must be removed from the director switches before upgrading to Fabric OS 7.1.0a and later.
Upgrading these platforms from any Fabric OS 6.4.x release lower than Fabric OS 6.4.1a to
Fabric OS 7.0.x will cause disruption to FC traffic.
