5 Calculating the Supported Scale of a Failover Cluster
All storage arrays have quantifiable capabilities in regards to the number of nodes in a cluster,
initiator logins, registrations, and reservations that can be managed by the array. These capabilities
must be considered when deciding the number of nodes that will be in a cluster, the number of
paths per cluster node, and the number of target ports to utilize in the configuration. The following
two equations are derived from equations discussed previously and can be used to determine the
scale and support of a given cluster:
