11 Managing power
Your device can operate on either battery power or external power. When the device is running on
battery power only and an AC power source is not available to charge the battery, it is important to
monitor and conserve the battery charge.
Running on battery power
When a charged battery is in the device and the device is not plugged into external power, the device
runs on battery power. When the device is off and unplugged from external power, the battery in the
device slowly discharges. The device will display a message when the battery reaches a low or
critical battery level.
A device's battery life varies, depending on power management settings, programs running on the
device, screen brightness, external devices connected to the device, and other factors.
Factory-sealed battery (select devices only)
The battery[ies] in this device cannot be easily replaced by user themselves. Removing or replacing
the battery could affect your warranty coverage. If a battery is no longer holding a charge, contact
support. When a battery has reached the end of its useful life, do not dispose of the battery in general
household waste. Follow the local laws and regulations in your area for battery disposal.
Charging the battery
1. Connect the power adapter to the device.
2. Verify that the battery is charging by checking the AC adapter light.
3. While the battery is charging, keep the AC adapter connected until the battery information in the
status area or Notification area reads as 100% charged.
Conserving battery power
To conserve battery power and maximize battery life:
●
Enable Power Saving Mode under Settings.
●
Lower the brightness on the display.
●
If the device will be unused and unplugged from external power for more than 2 weeks, remove
the user-replaceable battery (select devices only) from the device and store it separately in a
cool, dry place.
●
Turn off wireless devices when you are not using them.
●
Disconnect unused external devices that are not plugged into an external power source, such as
an external hard drive connected to a USB port.
●
Stop, disable, or remove any external media cards that you are not using.
●
Before you leave your work, initiate Sleep or shut down the device.
