You may also touch the screen with your finger, however, the stylus provides for a more precise working.

Launch: Start ⇒ Settings ⇒ Control Panel The "Control Panel" window appears (see Fig.6). 2. In the Control Panel window double-tap the following symbol. SKEYE.PAD XSL Initial Steps 2.5.6 Calling up the Desktop at Any Time To minimise all opened windows click on the symbol down right in the task bar . 2.5.7 Storing further Symbols on the Desktop Frequently used functions can be stored as symbols on the desktop. If you miss a frequently used function on the desktop proceed as follows: 1. Double-tap the My Computer symbol. The "My Computer" directory opens up. 2. In this directory tap the folder in which the program/function is stored.
SKEYE.PAD XSL Initial Steps 2.5.8 Right Mouse Button Function The right mouse button calls context menus with further functions like copying, deleting etc. To use the right click functions proceed a follows: 1. 2. Tap the element for which you want to perform the action and keep the stylus pressed. On the "LargeKB" Keyboard activate the key and then tap the element. The popup window of the right mouse button displays. Here, you can select the desired function.
SKEYE.PAD XSL Initial Steps 2.5.10 Setting Volume and Sounds By default, all sounds of your skeye.pad XSL are activated. For screen taping option Loud is activated. To save energy, deactivate the sounds. 1. Launch: Start ⇒ Settings ⇒ Control Panel The "Control Panel" menu appears (see Fig.6). 2. In addition, you may enter information in the "Notes" area displayed when you switch on the device. Under "Owner Properties" also enter the network ID (see chapter 4.7). 1. SKEYE.PAD XSL Initial Steps 2.5.12 Using (SD), PC, and CF Cards The skeye.pad XSL is equipped with an extension slot for CompactFlash cards (CF) and an extension slot for PC cards (also referred to as PCMCIA). Depending on the variant (see chapter 2) an extension slot for SD cards may also be available. Each extension card requires a special Windows CE driver from the manufacturer. The driver must support the Windows CE.net 4.2 device type and the Intel XScale PXA255 processor.
SKEYE.PAD XSL Switching Off the skeye.pad XSL 2.6 Switching Off the skeye.pad XSL There are three ways to switch off your skeye.pad XSL: • • • Suspend Mode Suspending a device means that it is inactive and thus consumes less power. A suspended skeye.pad XSL can be activated any time. While suspending information in the RAM is maintained. If the power supply is interrupted e.g. due to a discharged storage battery, information in the RAM gets lost.
SKEYE.PAD XSL Switching Off the skeye.pad XSL The skeye.pad XSL is suspended. If the power supply was not interrupted e.g. due to a discharged storage battery the data will be available again when you switch on/start the device. 2.6.2 Complete Power Off by Removing the Storage Battery Completely power off your skeye.pad XSL in the following situations: • when you do not operate your skeye.
SKEYE.PAD XSL Switching Off the skeye.pad XSL Performing a complete power off ⇒ Did you back up your data via SysBackup (see chapter 5.2)? ⇒ Did you store all important data and programs in the "FlashStorage" folder? ⇒ Did you mirror all important data to your desktop PC? 1. Unlock the storage battery by sliding the vertical bolt on the back of the device (see chapter 3.2.2) 2. Push the horizontal bolt to the right, keep it hold, and remove the storage battery (see chapter 3.2.

Further Functions and Settings 3.1 Display 3.1.1 Calibrating the Touch This function is required to fine-tune the touch screen; the better the touch screen is calibrated the more precisely it will react. When calibrating the touch screen note the following: • Touch the cross and keep the stylus pressed at the middle of the cross until the cross moves to the next marking. • Do not drag the stylus over the touch screen.
FURTHER FUNCTIONS AND SETTINGS Display 4. On the Calibration tab select [Recalibrate]. The window for calibrating the touch appears. 5. Position the stylus in the centre of the cross displayed (the more precise, the better the touch screen will respond later) and hold the position until the cross changes its position. 6. Click [OK] to confirm. Over time, the touch screen, and thus its calibration, may reset somewhat.
FURTHER FUNCTIONS AND SETTINGS Display 3.1.2 Transcriber The Transcriber is an application that recognises handwriting and thus enabling text entries with the stylus on the touch screen. 3.1.2.1 Activating the Transcriber 1. Launch: Start ⇒ Programs ⇒ Transcriber. The "Transcriber Intro” window appears. Select Enable Transcriber. The "Transcriber" function is deactivated (no checkmark). The Transcriber function can be activated again using the Transcriber menu by taping this symbol in the taskbar. To deactivate the Transcriber without terminating it tap the symbol once. It is no longer grayed out. 3.1.2.

The following rotations are supported: 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270° Close all applications and back up current data to maintain the data in the RAM. 1. Perform a backup. 2. Close all applications. 3. Launch: Start ⇒ Settings ⇒ Control Panel The "Control Panel" menu appears (see Fig.6). 2. In the Control Panel menu double-tap the backlight symbol. The “Backlight” window appears. ADVANCED PROGRAMS AND SETTINGS Installing Software 4.5 Installing Software You may • • download software from the internet or LAN and install it on your skeye.pad XSL, or download and install software via a connection to you desktop PC (with docking station and ActiveSync). For recommendations on tested WiFi cards please refer to our support forum (http://forum.skeye.com) or contact the service line (the phone number can be found in chapter 10.6). 4.6.1 46 Wireless LAN Settings 1. Set up a Wireless LAN access point that provides access to a LAN or the internet.

If your LAN uses a proxy server for internet connections activate the options “Bypass proxy server for local addresses” and “Access the Internet using a proxy server” and enter the address of the proxy server. 11. Please note that WEP encryption is not secure. Programs widely available on the Internet can capture your data traffic and use this data to obtain the WEP key. • Deactivate the "File and Print Sharing" on the Windows computer. (This applies only if you are not running a server and do not need to access other PCs over the network).

Prior to an update back up all data to an external memory. ⇒ Current versions of the operating system can be found on the following page: http://forum.skeye.com. Copy the files of the update program to a Compact Flash card and insert it into the Compact Flash slot of your skeye.pad XSL. 1.

Fig.37: Update process Please note: Do not restore a SysBackup created before under the new image as this might lead to problems. Please note that you need a license for the corresponding operating system. All licenses for a new operating system version are with costs.
DATA BACKUP General Data Backup 5. Data Backup 5.1 General Data Backup Windows CE stores the following in the RAM: • • • • Working memory Files Databases Registry RAM allows fast access. It is battery buffered which means that if the battery is discharged, the contents of the RAM memory will be deleted. The flash memory contains all data saved in the "\FlashStorage" folder and subfolders. The data stored in flash memory will persist even if the battery is discharged.
DATA BACKUP SysBackup 5.2 SysBackup The "SysBackup" programs allows the backup of changed configuration settings and installed programs to be • • • created restored (so that they are available after a cold start of the system) deleted NOTES: 56 ⇒ Backup data saved with SysBackup should only be restored to the image under which they were created.
DATA BACKUP SysBackup 5.2.1 Calling SysBackup Start SysBackup via • • Start ⇒ Run ⇒ SysBackup (enter SysBackup) or Start ⇒ Programs ⇒ System ⇒ SysBackup The "SysBackup" window appears. An automatic backup interval that is too short will have a negative effect on the performance. 1.3 • 15.01.
DATA BACKUP SysBackup 5.2.2 Creating a Backup Copy all important data to the "\FlashStorage" folder or its subfolders. Everything must be backed up to ensure system settings are not lost after a battery has fully discharged or there has been a total shutdown. 1. Open the "SysBackup" program (see chapter 5.2.1). 2. In the SysBackup window tap [create]. The message "Execute backup?" appears. Fig.39: Execute backup? 3. Click [Yes] to confirm. The SysBackup is performed.
DATA BACKUP SysBackup NOTE! If you change your system settings e.g. after a new calibration of the touch you will have to perform a SysBackup. If not, the settings will no longer be available e.g. after a complete power off. 5.2.3 Restoring a Backup 1. Open the "SysBackup" program (see chapter 5.2.1). 2. Select [restore]. The message "Execute restore?" appears. Fig.41: Execute restore? 3. Click [Yes] to confirm the message. The backup will be imported.
DATA BACKUP SysBackup Please note: RAM data will possibly be overwritten. All data will be updated to the state prevailing at the time of backup creation. 5.2.4 Deleting a Backup 1. Open the "SysBackup" program (see chapter 5.2.1). 2. Tap [delete]. The message "Erase backup files" appears. Fig.42: Erase backup files? 3. 60 Click [Yes] to confirm the message. PERIPHERY Car Cradle 6. Periphery 6.1 Car Cradle The car cradle accommodates the skeye.pad XSL in a vehicle. CAUTION! Registry entries must only be changed by experienced and authorised users (administrator).

ANNEX Dialing Patterns 10. Annex 10.1 Dialing Patterns A dialing pattern defines the dialing location and dialing type. 1. Launch: Start ⇒ Settings ⇒ Control Panel The "Control Panel" menu appears (see Fig.6). 2. Double-tap the symbol for Dialing. The “Dialing properties” window appears. Example: If you are in your office, the dialing patterns ensures that the number you will call is preceded by a zero. If you are at home, no preceding zero will be dialed.
