Season Starter
™
allows you to plant weeks earlier and
then harvest your tomatoes, peppers, and other heat-loving
plants up to 6 weeks earlier than usual. In addition, the
early harvest allows the plants to produce up to 6 weeks
longer, resulting in extraordinary overall production
especially in northern latitudes where the season is shorter.
HOW IT WORKS: Plant is surrounded by almost three
gallons of water which protects the plant in three ways:
1. It allows heat from the sun (even on a cloudy day) to be
stored and released at night when the temperature falls.
2. It shelters the young plant from the chilling winds that
can so quickly destroy it.
3. Most importantly, the enormous mass of water stored in
Season Starter buffers and protects it from sub-freezing
temperatures by slowly freezing before the plant even feels
the cold.
PREPARING YOUR SITE: Choose a site for planting that:
1. Has a maximum exposure to the sun –all day if possible.
2. Has fertile, loose, and well-drained soil (amend the soil if
needed).
3. Is covered with dark (black, if possible) mulch. Or use
black plastic or the Gardeneer
®
Tomato Tray
™
instead. This
will allow the sun to heat up the soil to give you extra
protection.
SETTING UP YOUR SEASON STARTER
™
:
(See Figure 1 – Open Position) Plant your tender plants up
to 6 to 8 weeks earlier than normal.
1. After preparing the site and planting your plants, unfold
Season Starter and form it into a circle with the open side
up.
2. Using the Easy-Fill Top Trough, support the cells as you
go, and use a hose or watering can to fill the cells, moving
from one to the next, filling each no more than 1/3 full until
each of the 18 cells is filled to approximately the same
depth. Caution: Adjust the hose to a low water flow for
better control.
3. Using both hands, carefully lift the Season Starter and
place it over the plant to be protected. Arrange the cells
into a circle around the plant.
4. Carefully increase the water level 2 or 3 inches at a time
all the way around. Be careful not to unbalance the cells
by raising the level too much in any one area, as this might
cause it to tip over. Continue filling until the water level all
the way around is about 1 inch below the top of the cells.
Note: Sides are extended above the cells to facilitate filling.
The extended sides also help to close the center opening
on cold nights.
5. Gently push the cells inward at the top so that a “cone”
is formed with only a small opening in the center (See
Figure 2 – Closed Position).
IMPORTANT TIPS:
1. On very cold nights, especially if it is to stay cold for
many hours, the top may be sealed closed temporarily
using a rubber band. Be sure to remove afterwards.
2. On warm days, move cells to a wide open position for
maximum air circulation. This also will allow the sun to hit
the plant directly.
3. The normal position is the cone position with the top
open at the center, or with the film covering the hole on
colder nights.
4. Frequent collapse may be due to interference from
wildlife or domestic pets. For added stability, create an
internal support with plant stakes (tee-pee design allows
you to open and close protector).
5. When danger of coldest weather is past, cells may be
filled completely to the top, and the center can be left more
open.
6. After a snow, remove the snow from over and around
Season Starter as soon as you can.
7. Season Starter is constructed of 18 individual cells. If
one leaks down, it still maintains over 90% of its
effectiveness.
REMOVING YOUR SEASON STARTER:
1. Fold the top film down so that water can flow out of the
top of the cells.
2. Place your hands inside and outside cells and squeeze
two thirds of the water out of each cell all the way around.
3. With both hands, lift the Season Starter off of the plant.
4. Remove all the water, fold it flat along the seams for
storage (out of the sun) for years of continued use.

PARA INSTALAR SU SEASON STARTER
™
(Consulte la Figura 1 – Posición Abierta) Plante sus plantas
jóvenes hasta 6-8 semanas antes de lo habitual.
1. Después de preparar el lugar y de plantar las plantas, abra el
Season Starter y déle forma de círculo con el lado abierto hacia
arriba.
2. Utilice el canal de la parte superior para llenar fácilmente;
sostenga las celdas conforme avance y use una manguera o
regadera para llenarlas de una por una; no llene más de 1/3
hasta que las 18 celdas estén llenas aproximadamente al
mismo nivel. Precaución: Ajuste la manguera a flujo bajo para
tener un mejor control.
3. Con ambas manos levante con cuidado el Season Starter y
colóquelo sobre la planta que desee proteger. Acomode las
celdas en forma de círculo alrededor de la planta.
4. Con cuidado aumente el nivel de agua unos 5-8 cm. cada
vez en todas las celdas. Tenga cuidado de que no se pierda el
equilibrio en las celdas al elevar demasiado el nivel de agua de
un lado, ya que esto podría ocasionar que se vuelque. Siga
llenando hasta que todo el nivel de agua esté a aproximada-

5. Con cuidado cierre las celdas hacia adentro en la parte

CONSEJOS IMPORTANTES:
1. En las noches cuando haga mucho frío, especialmente si el
frío durará varias horas, se puede cerrar la parte superior con
una banda elástica. Asegúrese de retirarla posteriormente.
2. En los días cálidos, abra las celdas para obtener la máxima
circulación del aire. Esto también permitirá que el sol dé
directamente a la planta.

5. Cuando haya pasado el peligro del clima frío, las celdas se
pueden llenar hasta arriba y el centro se puede dejar más
abierto.
6. Después de una nevada, retire la nieve de encima y
alrededor del Season Starter tan pronto como pueda.
7. El Season Starter cuenta con 18 celdas individuales. Si
alguna gotea, aún conserva más del 90% de su efectividad.
PARA RETIRAR SU SEASON STARTER:
1. Doble la película superior para que el agua pueda salir por la
parte superior de las celdas.
2. Coloque las manos por dentro y por fuera de las celdas y
oprima para sacar dos terceras partes del agua de cada celda.
3. Con ambas manos, levante el Season Starter.
