Installation Instructions for Tin Cornices
Preparation:
Safety Gear: Prioritize safety by wearing gloves and safety glasses.
Tools: Gather necessary equipment such as a measuring tape, level, pencil, hammer, drill, metal snips,
and fasteners (nails, screws, etc.).
Cutting:
Measure and mark the cornice for any cuts using tin snips for straight cuts.
Mitering Corners (Optional): For clean corner fits, miter the ends at a 45-degree angle using a miter box.
Installation:
Mounting Strip (Optional): If applicable, install a mounting strip along the wall at the desired cornice
height using fasteners.
Cornice Placement: Carefully slide the cornice sections onto the mounting strip or directly onto the
wall, ensuring a level and consistent gap from the wall.
Fastening: Secure the cornice to the wall using appropriate fasteners like nails, screws, or rivets.
Tips:
Start from a corner for a straight installation around the room.
Ensure proper overlap for cornices with overlapping sections to conceal seams.
Fill small gaps with caulk designed for metal applications.
Once your tin ceiling is installed, install the cornice by nailing it into the ceiling through the ceiling panels and
into the wall at 6” intervals. When purchasing cornices, note their measurements, including projection and
depth. Inside corners can be shaped using snips, while outside corners can be mitered using aviation snips.
Blend cut edges with a hammer and nail, or caulk the seam for a seamless finish.
