image. At the same time, high luminance components are compressed, thus avoiding
obscured black and white fogging in the resulting image. Engaging the function also
engages gamma correction.
When area 1 is selected at the LIGHT CONTROL MENU while this function is engaged, the
function is automatically switched OFF if strong light enters the background. Conversely,
the function is automatically switched ON when strong forward light is present.
If the selected area is from 2 to 8, the function is engaged (fixed at ON during AUTO) or
disengaged (fixed at off) according to the setting at the menu.
Note when setting CONTRAST
Set the CONTRAST to OFF in cases where a person or object passing directly in front of
the camera cuts off the incident light to the extent the AGC operates. If set to ON or
AUTO, the CONTRAST is automatically switched OFF when the AGC begins to raise the
gain. This can cause a slight change in picture brightness, which is not due to
malfunction.
l Area check and change
Light control uses 8 measuring areas. The factory setting is area 1 (center weighted light
metering).
After setting the CONTRAST, press the Set button while the AREA SELECT NO. is
flashing to display the area to display the area select screen.
Use the 4 directional buttons to select the desired area from 1 to 8.
Sensing area indication
Right button: Ascending sequence 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8
Left button : Descending sequence 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Up button : Sequence 1-4-5
Down button : Sequence 1-2-3-6-7-8
The selected area is highlighted on the screen to allow the most suitable area to be
selected while observing the monitor. After determining the area, press the Set button.
