Chapter 2 Adjusting Screens

To adjust gamma
Gamma can be adjusted. The brightness of the monitor varies depending on the input signal,
however, the variation rate is not simply proportional to the input signal. The control performed to
keep the balance between the input signal and the brightness of the monitor is called “Gamma
correction”.
Setting Purpose
1.6 to 2.7 Set the gamma value.
Adobe®RGB Set the gamma curve dened by Adobe®RGB.
sRGB Set the gamma curve dened by sRGB.
EBU Set the gamma curve dened by EBU.
REC709 Set the gamma curve dened by REC709.
REC1886 Set the gamma curve dened by REC1886.
SMPTE-C Set the gamma curve dened by SMPTE-C.
DCI Set the gamma curve dened by DCI.
Procedure
1. Choose “Color” from the Adjustment menu, and press
.
2. Choose “Gamma” from “Color”, and press
.
3. Use
or for adjustment.
4. Press
after completing the setting.
Note
• The gamma curve can be adjusted to L* by using SelfCalibration or ColorNavigator 6. For details,
see “4-4. Setting the calibration targets” (page 38) or the ColorNavigator 6 User's Manual (stored on the
CD-ROM).
• L* is a gamma curve dened in CIE1976 that is perceptually uniform.

To set color gamut
Set the color reproduction area (color gamut). “Color gamut” is the range of colors that devices such
as monitors, digital cameras and printers can express. Various standards are dened.
Setting Purpose
Native Display images in the monitor’s original color gamut.
Adobe®RGB Display images in the color gamut dened by Adobe®RGB.
sRGB Display images in the color gamut dened by sRGB.
EBU Display images in the color gamut dened by EBU.
REC709 Display images in the color gamut dened by REC709.
REC1886 Display images in the color gamut dened by REC1886.
SMPTE-C Display images in the color gamut dened by SMPTE-C.
DCI Display images in the color gamut dened by DCI.
Procedure
1. Choose “Color” from the Adjustment menu, and press

• The method of displaying colors outside the monitor's displayable range within the dened color gamut can
