Concept Guide
Non-VLT host to Non-VLT host trac ow
When VLT node receives trac from non-VLT host intended to the non-VLT host, it does neighbor entry lookup and routes trac over ICL
interface. If trac reaches wrong VLT peer, it routes the trac over ICL.
Router Solicitation
When VLT node receives router Solicitation on VLT interface/non-VLT interface it consumes the packets and will send RA back on the
received interface.
VLT node will drop the RS message if it is received over ICL interface.
Router Advertisement
When VLT node receives router advertisement on VLT interface/non-VLT interface it consumes the packets.
VLT node will drop the RA message if it is received over ICL interface.
Upgrading from Releases That Do Not Support IPv6 Peer Routing
During an upgrade to Release 9.4(0.0) from earlier releases, VLT peers might contain dierent versions of FTOS. You must upgrade both
the VLT peers to Release 9.4(0.0) to leverage the benets of IPv6 peer routing.
Station Movement
When a host moves from VLT interface to non-VLT interface or vice versa Neighbor entry is updated and synchronized to VLT peer. When
a host moves from non-VLT interface of VLT node1 to non-VLT interface of VLT node2 neighbor entry is updated and synchronized to VLT
peer.
VXLAN on VLT
VLT peers are two nodes in the network that are loosely coupled. It provides high availability to the other ends. VXLAN on VLT provides
resiliency to the servers connected to southbound port-channels and VTEPS connected through L3 cloud to northbound interfaces. As
gateway IP address conguration on both peers is the same, remote VTEP’s view it as a single node. Packets from remote VTEP’s can land
on any node, either VLT primary or secondary. Southbound interfaces are connected via port channels. Even if a port-channel member
connected to one peer is down, the server can send/receive trac through the other VLT peer.
The gure below shows the topology for a data-center interconnect, in which static VXLAN is used for linking geographically dispersed
data centers. VXLAN tunnels are used to communicate across the data centers. VXLAN on VLT provides high availability to the L3 network
and to the servers connected via LAG.
