Getting Started for Device Conguration Deployment
Before you can deploy a device conguration to target devices, you must:
1. Congure the deployment le share on the server running OpenManage Essentials.
2. Add target devices to the Repurpose and Bare Metal Devices group.

Overview of Bare Metal Deployment
The steps that you must perform to deploy a device conguration template on target devices are as follows:
1. Create a device conguration template — Use the Create Template task in the Common Tasks pane to create a device
conguration template. You can choose to create the template from either a conguration le or a reference device.
2. Edit the device conguration template — Select the template from the Templates pane, and edit the desired conguration
attributes displayed in the right pane.
3. Deploy the device conguration template on target devices — Use the Deploy Template task in the Common Tasks pane to
select the template, target devices, edit device-specic attributes, and then deploy the conguration attributes. You can also
use the Setup Auto Deployment task to deploy a device conguration template on devices that you will be discovering later.
NOTE: If the hardware of the device from which the device conguration template was created and the hardware of the
deployment targets are identical, it enhances the possibility of the attributes being deployed successfully. If the hardware
is not entirely identical, the deployment task may not complete successfully. However, the attributes for the matching
components are deployed successfully.

To view the deployment portal, click Deployment → Deployment Portal.
Conguring the Deployment File Share
Before creating or deploying a conguration template from a device, you must congure the deployment le share on the server
running OpenManage Essentials. The deployment le share temporarily stores the conguration le that is used to retrieve and apply
the conguration settings on a target server or chassis.
To congure the deployment le share:
1. Perform one of the following:
• Click Settings → Deployment Settings.
• Click Deployment. In the Common Tasks pane, click File Share Settings.
• Click Deployment → Getting Started for Deployment → Congure Deployment File Share.
• Click Manage → Conguration. In the Common Tasks pane, click File Share Settings.
