BEFORE REMOVING TRACTOR OFFSKID ATTACH STEERING WHEEL • Remove hexbolt,lockwasher and largeflatwasher fromsteering shaft. HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRACTOR CHECK BATTERY • Lifthood to raisedposition. • If this battery is put into serviceafter monthand year indicatedon label (label locatedbetween terminals) charge batteryfor minimumof one hour at 6-10 amps. (See "BATTERY" in Maintenance sectionof this manual for charginginstructions). • Positionfrontwheels of the tractorso they are pointingstraightforward.
NOTE: You may now roll or drive your tractor offthe skid. Follow the appropriate instructionbelow to remove the tractor from the skid. TO ROLLTRACTOR OFF SKID (See Operation section for location and function of controls) • Press lift lever plunger and raise attachment lift lever to its highest position. • Release parking brake by depressing clutch/brake pedal. • Place freewheel control in freewheeling position to disengage transmission (See TO TRANSPORT" in the Operation section of this manual).
• Installone front linkin top holeof the R.H. front mower bracketand R.H. front suspensionbracket. Retain with two single loop retainerspringsas shown. • Installsecondfront linkin L.H. front suspensionbracket only and retain with single loop retainer springas shown, •Tum height adjustmentknobcounterclockwiseuntil it stops. • Lower mower linkage with attachment liftcontrol. • Place the L.H. suspensionarm on inwardpointingdeck pin.

I_ HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR TO SET PARKING BRAKE Your tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing switch.
The cutting height range is approximately 1-1/2" to 4". The heights are measured from the ground to the blade tip with the engine not running. These heights are approximate and may vary depending upon soil conditions, height of grass and types of grass being mowed. • The average lawn should be cut to approximately 2-1/2 inches during the cool season and to over 3 inches during hot months. For healthier and better looking lawns, mow often and after moderate growth.
• Do not pushor towtractorat more than two (2) MPH. • To reengage transmission,reverse above procedure. NOTE: To protecthoodfrom damage when transportingyourtractoron a truck or a trailer,be sure hood is closedand securedto tractor. Use an appropriate means of tyinghoodto tractor(rope, cord,etc.). r TOWING CARTS AND OTHER ATI'ACHMENTS Tow only the attachments that are recommended by and comply with specifications of the manufacturer of your tractor. Use common sense when towing.
• Insert key into ignitionand turnkey clockwise to "START"positionand release key as soon as engine starts. Do not run startercontinuouslyfor more than fifteensecondsper minute. If the engine doesnot startafter several attempts,push choke control in, waita few minutesand try again. If engine stilldoes not start, pullthe choke controlout and retry.
• Sittingin the tractor seat, startengine. Afterthe engine is running,move throttlecontrolto half (t/2) speed.With motioncontrollever in neutral (N) position,slowly disengageclutch/ brake pedal. • Slowlymove motioncontrollever forward,afterthe tractormoves approximatelyfive (5) feet, slowly move motioncontrollever to reverse position.After the tractormoves approximatelyfive (5) feet returnthe motioncontrollever to the neutral (N) position.Repeat this procedurewith the motioncontrollever three (3) times.

TRACTOR Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted. (See =TO ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual). TIRES • Maintain proper air pressure in all tires (See "PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS" section of this manual).
BATI'ERY TRANSAXLE Your tractor has a battery charging system which is sufficient for normal use. However, periodic charging of the battery with an automotive charger will extend its life. • Keep battery and terminals clean. • Keep battery bolts tight. • Keep small vent holes open. • Recharge at 6-10 amperes for 1 hour. NOTE: The original equipment battery on your tractor is maintenance free. Do not attempt to open or remove caps or covers. Adding or checking level of electrolyte is not necessary.
Air S__in _Oil _: Plug FillCap/ Dipstick CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be kept free of dirt and chaff to prevent engine damage from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to remove dirt and stubborn dried gum fibers. CLEAN AIR INTAKE/COOLING AREAS To insure proper cooling, make sure the grass screen, cooling fins, and other external surfaces of the engine are kept clean at air times.
_CAUTION: Before performing any service or adjustments: • Depress clutch/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place motion control lever in neutral (N) position. • Place attachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" position. • Turn ignition key "OFF" and remove key. • Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped. • Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug.
BottomEdge of Mower to Ground _ [_ BottomEdgeof Mowerto _ Ground BothFrontLinksShould be Equal in Length FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT IMPORTANT: DECK MUST BE LEVEL SIDE-TO-SIDE, If the following front-toback adjustment is necessary, be sure to adjust both front links equally so mower will stay level side-to-side. To obtain the best cutting results, the mower housing should be adjusted so the front is approximately 1/8" to 1/2" lower than the rear when the mower is in its highest position.

Engage parking brake, • Remove mower drive belt (See "TO REPLACE MOWER DRIVE BELT" in this section of this manual), • Remove mower (See "TO REMOVE MOWER" in this section of this manual). • Remove screws from R.H. mandrel cover and remove cover. Unhook spring from bolt on mower housing, • Carefully roll belt off R.H. mandrel pulley.
Rotor BELTREMOVAL- Clutch Plate • Engage parkingbrake (creates slack in belt). • Remove belt from clutchingand fan idler pulleys. • Loosenpelt keeper above transaxle pulley. • Remove belt from transaxlepulley. • Remove belt from engine pulley and front V-idler pulley. • Pull belt out of all belt keepers and removefrom tractor. Slot < Nylon Locknut (31 TO ADJUST BRAKE Yourtractoris equippedwith an adjustable brake system whichis mountedon the right side of the transaxle.
TO ADJUST MOTION CONTROL LEVER The motion control lever has boon preset at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary. If for any reason the motion control lever will not hold its position while at a selected speed, it may be adjusted at the friction pack located on the right side of chassis. • Park tractor on level surface. Stop tractor by turning ignition key to "OFF" position and engage parking brake. • Place motion control lever in neutral (N) position.
REAR WHEEL • Blockrear axle securely. • Remove five (5) hub boltsto allow wheel removal, • Repair tire and reassemble. Replace and tighten hub boltssecurely. NOTE: To seal tire puncturesand preventflat tires due to slow leaks,tire sealant may be purchasedfrom your local partsdealer. Tire sealant also preventstire dry rot and corrosion. INTERLOCKS AND RELAYS Loose or damaged wiringmay cause yourtractorto runpoorly,stop running,or preventitfrom starting. • Check wiring. See electdcalwiring diagramin the Repair Parts section. TO REPLACE FUSE Replace with 30 amp automotive-type plug-infuse. The fuse holderis located behindthe dash. HeadlightWire Connector TO ADJUST ATTACHMENT LIFT SPRING ENGINE • While holding spring bushing with wrench, loosen jam nut.
TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL PRELIMINARY SETTING. The choke control has been preset at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary, chock adjustment as descdbed below before loosening cable. If adjustment is necessary, proceed as follows: • With engine not running, move choke control (located on dash panel) to full choke position. • Remove air cleaner cover, filter and cartridge plate to expose carburetor choke (See "A_R FILTER" in the Maintenance section of this manual). • Choke should be closed.
Immediatelyprepare yourtractorfor storageat the end of the season or if the tractorwillnot be used for 30 days or more. CAUTION: Never storethe tractor wuthgasolinein the tank inside a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark. Allow the engine to cool beforestonngin any enclosure. TRACTOR Remove mowerfrom tractorfor winter storage. When moweris to be storedfor a penod of time, clean it thoroughly, removeall dirt,grease, leaves,etc. Store in a clean,dry area.
TROUBLESHOOTING )ROBLEM Will not start / : CHART CAUSE CORRECTION • Out of fuel. • Engine not "CHOKED" properly. • Engine flooded. • Fill fuel tank. • See "TO START ENGINE" in Operation section. • Wait several minutes before attempting to start. • Bad spark plug. • Replace spark plug. • Dirtyair filter. • Clean/replace air filter. • Dirtyfuel filter. • Replace fuel filter. • Water in fuel. • Drain fuel tank and carburetor, refill tank with fresh gasoline and replace fuel filter.

Tighten blade bolt, • Clean underside of mower housing. • Replace mower drive belt. • Reinstall blades sharp edge down. • Replace with blades listed in this manual.
