100% Handmade Tile
The beauty of artisanal tile lies in its imperfections. Because each piece is
designed, molded, and glazed by hand, no two look exactly alike.
• Hand Formed: Clay Décor tiles are individually hand-pressed by an artist into
a mold created by an artist out of wood or clay. We do not use machine presses.
Each tile is smoothed on all edges, signed, and fired to over 1900 degrees
Fahrenheit.
• Hand-Glazed with Our Own Formulas: Small batch artisan glazes are
individually applied by an artist, then the tiles receive a final firing to over 2000
degrees Fahrenheit. Drips, runs, and slight variations in color are evidence of
the unique character inherent to handmade tile.
• Surface Variation: Handmade tile is never perfectly even and flat. Many tiles
will have bumps on the surface where the clay was hand-smoothed. These tiles
are also slightly concave on the backside where the clay is pressed into the raised
portions of the mold.
• Slight Thickness Variations: Every handmade tile is unique. No two tiles are
the same. This is due to the hand-pressing of each piece of clay into a hand-hewn
mold. While relatively consistent, we recommend that you install these tiles in a
thick mortar bed (1/4 inch trowel w/back-buttering) to fill all voids in the back of
tile for good adhesion and to allow for visual leveling with surrounding tiles.
• Durable: These stoneware tiles are extremely durable and suitable for kitchen
backsplashes, bathroom wall applications, fireplace surrounds, and any interior
wall.
• Maintenance: Cleaning is as easy as using non-abrasive mild soap and a soft
cloth.
