Turning the Printer On/Off Turning the printer’s power on and off is performed with the power switch on the right side of the printer. Please learn the correct procedures to avoid any unexpected trouble. Turning On the Printer To use the printer, turn it on by pressing the power switch to the “I” position. Printing is enabled after the printer performs a self-diagnostic test to check the status of the printer and any options installed.
If no errors are found, the オンライン indicator, 印刷可 indicator and the selected paper feed indicator light up, and the message <00 インサツ カノウ > or <00 LIPS> appears on the display when the printer is ready to print. オンライン ジョブ ジョブキャンセル 給紙選択 00 インサツ カノウ A4 ユーティリティ セットアップ 実行 印刷可 メッセージ HDD ジョブ リセット The information shown on the LCD display is as follows: Currently selected paper feed size. About Online and Offline When the printer can receive data from a personal computer and is able to print the data, this is called “online”, and when the printer cannot receive data, this is called “offline.” The printer should be offline when you perform operations from the menu on the control panel. Online The printer must be online in order to print data received from a personal computer. Make sure that the printer is online before you send a job to the printer.
Offline The printer must be offline when you use the menu on the control panel of the printer, to select the paper feeding method, or set the paper size. To perform any operations from the control panel, take the printer offline as described in the following procedure. オンライン 1 Press [ オンライン ]. The オンライン indicator is turned off and the printer gets ready for operation using the control panel.
Paper Requirements Use only compatible paper in order to get the best performance from your printer. Using incompatible paper can lead to reduced printing quality and paper jams. Printable Paper The printer can use the following types of paper. ◎ indicates that both single-side and duplex printing can be performed, ○ indicates that only single-side printing can be performed, × indicates that printing can not be performed.

■ Abbreviations of Paper size The size indicators on the paper cassettes use the following abbreviations.
■ Thick paper You can use A3-, B4-, A4-, B5-, A5-, Ledger-, Legal-, Letter- and Executive-size thick paper of 76.2 - 312.0 mm width, 98.0 - 469.9 mm length and 106 – 135 g/m2 weight with this printer. Thick paper can be fed from the paper tray. Only single-side printing is possible. ■ Transparencies Use Canon Color Laser OHP film, TR-3 A4 (A4-size) with this printer. IMPORTANT • OHP film TR-3 A4 is designed for use with LBP-2160 / 2040 / 2050 / 2200 / 2260 / 2260PS / 2260PSII / 2300 / 2360 / 2710 / 2810.
■ Envelopes You can use Youkei No.4 and Kakukei No.2 envelopes of the size shown below with this printer. Kakukei No.2 (240 mm x 332 mm) Youkei No.4 (105 mm x 235 mm) (Envelope Y401 for Canon LBP/recommended) * You cannot use envelopes with a flap along the short edge. IMPORTANT • Never use the following types of envelope. If envelopes that do not conform to specifications are used, this may cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction. - Envelopes with fasteners or snaps.

Paper You Cannot Use To avoid problems such as paper jams and printer malfunctions, the following types of paper should never be used. IMPORTANT • Paper that tends to cause paper jams. - Paper that is too thick or too thin. - Paper that is irregular shaped. - Paper that is wet or holding moisture. - Paper that is torn or damaged. - Paper that is rough or extremely smooth. - Paper that has perforations. - Curled paper and paper with creases.
Printing from the Paper Cassette Procedures for loading paper into paper cassette 1, which is supplied with the printer, and paper cassettes 2, 3, and 4, in the optional paper feeder unit, are the same. You can load different paper sizes into each cassette and switch between these paper cassettes for paper sources automatically. Follow the procedure described below to load paper into the paper cassette. IMPORTANT • To avoid paper jams, note the following precautions.
Loading Standard-Size Paper To load A3-, B4-, A4-, A5-, Ledger-, Legal-, Letter- and Executive-size paper in the paper cassette, follow the procedure described below. 1 If you were using the paper tray, remove any paper remaining in the tray and close it.
2 Make sure that the ジョブ indicator and HDD indicator are off before you remove the cassette in which you want to load paper. Grasp the pocket on the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it clicks. Then remove the paper cassette from the printer, supporting the sides of the cassette with both hands as illustrated below. WARNING • When loading paper in the paper cassette, be sure to remove the paper cassette completely from the printer.
3 Set the STANDARD / CUSTOM switch to “STANDARD.” CU ST OM ST AN DA RD IMPORTANT • Be sure to set the STANDARD / CUSTOM switch to “STANDARD” when you use standard-size paper. 4 Grasp the lock lever of the rear paper size guide and slide it to the mark indicating the desired paper size.
5 Grasp the lock lever of the left paper size guide and slide it to the mark indicating the desired paper size. The paper guides on both sides move together. 6 Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to properly align the edges. IMPORTANT • If you are using paper that has been cut badly, sheets may overlap when delivered. If you are using such paper, fan the stack of paper well, and then load it into the cassette.
7 Set the paper flush against the rear paper size guide and then load it into the cassette. NOTE • To print on letterhead paper or paper with a logo on it, follow the instructions below to load the paper in the proper direction. - When loading paper such as A4- or Letter-size in the landscape orientation, the print side should be facing up and the top of the paper on the left as viewed from the front of paper cassette.
8 Press down on the stack of paper as illustrated below and make sure that it does not exceed the limit mark. Then set the stack of paper under the hooks of the paper guides. Hook Limit Mark Hook Hook IMPORTANT • You can load up to 500 sheets of plain paper (64 g/m2) in the paper cassette. Make sure that the paper stack is not higher than the limit mark. If the stack is higher than the limit mark, this may cause a paper feed failure.
9 Insert the paper cassette into the printer. Hold the paper cassette securely and push it into the printer until its front side is flush with the front surface of the printer. If the power is on when you load the paper cassette, you will hear printer operation sounds. If a message indicating that paper has been used up during the former print job is displayed, printing is resumed automatically. WARNING • Take care not to trap your fingers when inserting the paper cassette into the printer.
10 24 Insert the paper size display board that matches the loaded paper size into the slot on the front-left side of the paper cassette.
Printing from the Paper Tray Loading Paper (other than postcards and envelopes) To load plain paper, thick paper or label sheets into the paper tray, follow the procedure described below. IMPORTANT • Data cannot be printed in a 5 mm wide border around the paper. 1 Open the paper tray. Grasp the pocket of the paper tray and pull it open, as shown in the illustration below. IMPORTANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the printer when you open the paper tray.
2 Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to properly align the edges. IMPORTANT • Be sure to load a stack of transparencies or labels after thoroughly fanning them. Otherwise, they may overlap when they are fed into the printer, causing paper jams. • When fanning or aligning transparencies, always hold the edges, where possible, to avoid touching the print side.
• If the rear edge of paper is not properly aligned, this may cause a paper feed failure and paper jams. • If A4- or Letter-size paper is loaded in the portrait orientation when [ トレイ用紙サイズ ] is set to [ フリー ], make sure to set [ 用紙の向き ] to [ タテオクリ ]. • Be sure to load B5-, A5-, Executive-size paper or custom-size paper in the portrait orientation. • When loading label sheets in the paper tray, be sure to load them in the portrait orientation, and then set [ トレイ用紙サイズ ] in the 給紙 menu to [A4R] or [ フリー].
4 Slide the paper guides so that they closely fit to the right and left edges of the paper. IMPORTANT • Be sure to set the paper guides to the paper width. Misfeeds or paper jams may occur if the paper guides are too loose or too tight. • Do not touch or remove the paper from the paper tray during printing. This may cause a printer malfunction.
Loading Postcards Official postcards can be loaded into the paper tray. To load postcards into the tray, follow the procedure described below. IMPORTANT • Data cannot be printed in a 5 mm wide border around the postcard. 1 Open the paper tray. Grasp the pocket of the paper tray and pull it open, as shown in the illustration below. IMPORTANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the printer when you open the paper tray. • Do not place anything other than paper in the paper tray.
IMPORTANT • If the postcards are warped, correct the warp so that it does not exceed 2 mm in an upward direction before loading them into the tray. No more than 2 mm • If you are using postcards that have been cut badly, they may overlap when delivered. If you are using such postcards, fan the stack of postcards well, and then load them into the tray. 3 Load the stack of postcards into the paper tray.
4 Slide the paper guides so that they closely fit to the right and left edges of the paper. IMPORTANT • Be sure to set the paper guides to the postcard width. Misfeeds or paper jams may occur if the paper guides are too loose or too tight. • Do not touch or remove postcards from the paper tray during printing. This may cause a printer malfunction. Loading Envelopes The paper tray can hold Youkei No.4, and Kakukei No.2 envelopes. To load envelopes in the paper tray, follow the procedure described below.
1 Open the paper tray. Grasp the pocket of the paper tray and pull it open, as shown in the illustration below. IMPORTANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the printer when you open the paper tray. • Do not place anything other than paper in the paper tray. In addition, avoid pressing or applying excessive force to the tray as this may damage it. 2 32 Place the envelopes on a flat surface and press them with your hands to expel any air pockets.
3 4 5 Flex the envelope stack to remove stiffness. Correct any bent corners on the envelopes. Tap the stack of envelopes on a flat surface to properly align the edges. Insert the envelope stack as far as it will go into the printer, with the side on which the address will be written facing down. Limit Mark IMPORTANT • You can load up to 10 envelopes into the tray. Make sure that the stack is not higher than the limit guide.
• You cannot print on the back (adhesive surface) of the envelope. • Load the Youkei No.4 envelopes with the flap on the right. • Load the Kakukei No.2 envelopes with the flap open and end edge of the envelope facing toward printer. 6 Slide the paper guides so that they closely fit to the right and left edges of the envelope. IMPORTANT • Be sure to set the paper guides to the envelope width. Misfeeds or paper jams may occur if the paper guides are too loose or too tight.
Clearing Paper Jams When a paper jam occurs during printing, a warning beep will sound. Then the error message <13 ヨウシガ ツマリマシタ > will appear in the upper part of the display and an error message that indicates the location of the paper jam, such as < キュウシ エリア > or < ハイシ エリア >, will appear at the bottom of the display. When a paper jam occurs, follow the procedure below to remove the jammed paper from the printer.
IMPORTANT • Never touch the undesignated parts of the ETB unit, such as the high-voltage contact or gear. This may cause a printer malfunction. • Do not place any objects on the ETB unit or touch the transfer belt of the ETB unit. Furthermore, do not clean any loose toner powder from the transfer belt, as the belt has a self-cleaning function. If the ETB unit is damaged or the transfer belt is scratched, this may cause misfeeds and a deterioration in print quality.
1 Check all the messages appearing on the display. The error messages and paper jam locations are shown one by one on the display. Check all of them. The messages will disappear when you open the cover. It is recommended that you note down the messages. 13 ヨウシガ ツマリマシタ キュウシ エリア The message indicates the location of the paper jam. The following types of messages are shown on the display. When two or more messages appear on the display, note down all of them and check them one by one, in sequence.
3 If you are using the paper tray, remove the jammed paper from the paper tray area. IMPORTANT • If you cannot remove the jammed paper easily, do not use force to remove it and proceed to the next step. 4 38 Close the paper tray.
5 Open the upper cover. Hold both sides of the upper cover and open it. IMPORTANT • The following procedure must be performed with the upper cover open. Take care not to close the upper cover accidentally. 6 Press down the right and left green pressure release levers to release the pressure applied to the fixing unit.
7 8 Open the fixing unit cover by raising the lever with the green label. Remove the jammed paper by pulling it in the direction of the arrow in the illustrations below. NOTE • If there is any unfixed toner on the removed paper, there may be toner stains on the paper that is printed next.
9 Open the lower cover. Grasp the front of the lower cover as shown in the illustration below, and open it until it stops. IMPORTANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the lower cover when you open it.
10 Remove the jammed paper by pulling it in the direction of the arrow in the illustrations below. Remove the paper while pressing the lock release lever rightward when the paper is jammed in the lower part of ETB unit.
11 Grasp the right and left grips (green labels attached) of the ETB unit with both hands and lower the unit toward you to open it. Lower the ETB unit gently, until it stops. IMPORTANT • Be sure to open the ETB unit by holding the grips on the right and left with both hands. Do not open it with one hand or by applying excessive force to one of the grips. This may cause a malfunction. • Lower the ETB unit completely until it stops.
12 Remove the jammed paper by pulling it in the direction of the arrow in the illustrations below. Remove the jammed paper carefully, as any unfixed toner may adhere to the ETB unit.
● If you cannot remove the paper easily, remove the ETB unit before you try to remove the paper. ▼ Hold the ETB unit securely with both hands and remove it from the printer while pulling the blue release levers on the right and left sides of the ETB unit. CAUTION • Toner may stain the ETB unit. When removing jammed paper, take care not to get loose toner powder on your hands or clothing. If you get toner on your hands or clothing, wash it off with cold water immediately.
• Never touch the undesignated parts of the ETB unit, such as the high-voltage contact or gear. This may cause a printer malfunction. • Never touch the connector inside the printer. This may cause a printer malfunction. • Place the ETB unit on a flat and sturdy surface, with the transfer belt facing up. ▼ Open the cover while pressing the right and left levers in the direction of the arrows in the illustration below.
▼ Remove the jammed paper. Remove the paper from the printer while pressing the lock release lever rightward. Lock Release Lever ▼ Close the cover after you have removed the jammed paper.
▼ 13 Hold the ETB unit securely with both hands and install it to the printer while pressing the blue release levers on the right and left sides of the ETB unit. After the ETB unit has been pushed into the printer securely, release the blue lock release levers. Close the ETB unit. Use both hands to close the ETB unit securely, until it clicks. IMPORTANT • Be sure to hold the right and left grips with green labels when you close the ETB unit.
14 15 Return the pressure release levers of the fixing unit to their original positions. Close the lower cover 1, and then close the upper cover 2. Be sure to close the upper cover slowly, holding the right and left sides with both hands.
16 Remove the paper cassette from the printer. Grasp the pocket on the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it clicks. Then remove the paper cassette from the printer, supporting the sides of the cassette with both hands as illustrated below. If the paper feeder units are attached, remove all the paper cassettes starting from the top.
IMPORTANT • The paper cassette is heavy, make sure that you hold it securely during removal. • Place the removed paper cassette on a flat and sturdy surface. 17 Pull the jammed paper toward you as illustrated below and remove it from the printer. Pull out the paper from the printer while pressing the lock release lever to the left.
18 Insert the paper cassette into the printer. Hold the paper cassette securely and push it into the printer until its front side is flush with the front surface of the printer. CAUTION • Take care not to trap your fingers when inserting the paper cassette into the printer. IMPORTANT • If you have trouble inserting the paper cassette into the printer, do not use force to insert it. Remove the paper cassette and re-insert it straight into the printer.
Replacing the Toner Cartridge To replace the toner cartridge, follow the procedure described below. When <トナー チェック / コウカン> is displayed Toner cartridges are consumable products. When a cartridge is almost out of toner, the messages described in the list below will be displayed. Take proper action depending on the message. Display message Time to display Description/Remedy 16 X トナー チェック (X means K, M, Y, or C.) The cartridge is almost out of toner. • Printing can be continued.
Replacing the Cartridge When the following messages appear on the display, replace the toner cartridge as indicated. • < 1G K トナー コウカン>・・・Replace the black cartridge. • < 1G M トナー コウカン>・・・Replace the magenta cartridge. • < 1G Y トナー コウカン>・・・Replace the yellow cartridge. • < 1G C トナー コウカン>・・・Replace the cyan cartridge. WARNING • To avoid a fire or personal injury, never attempt to incinerate a used toner cartridge.
1 Open the upper cover. Hold both sides of the upper cover and open it. IMPORTANT • The following procedure must be performed with the upper cover open. Take care not to close the upper cover accidentally. 2 Open the lower cover. Grasp the front of the lower cover as shown in the illustration below, and open it until it stops. IMPORTANT • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the lower cover when you open it.
3 Grasp the right and left grips (green labels attached) of the ETB unit with both hands and lower the unit toward you to open it. Lower the ETB unit gently, until it stops. IMPORTANT • Be sure to open the ETB unit by holding the grips on the right and left with both hands. Do not open it with one hand or by applying excessive force to one of the grips. This may cause a malfunction. • Lower the ETB unit completely until it stops.
• Do not place any objects on the ETB unit or touch the transfer belt of the ETB unit. Furthermore, do not clean any loose toner powder from the transfer belt, as the ETB unit has self-cleaning function. If the ETB unit is damaged or the transfer belt is scratched, this may cause misfeeds and a deterioration in print quality. Transfer Belt Transfer Belt 4 Cover the transfer belt with paper (A3-size paper is recommended) as illustrated below.
5 Grasp the right and left handles of the cartridge for the color to be replaced, and pull it straight out. The toner cartridge weighs approximately 2.3 kg. Remove the cartridge by holding it securely with both hands. Take care not to touch the transfer belt of the ETB unit. IMPORTANT • The cartridges should be installed from the top in the following order: black, magenta, yellow, and cyan.
6 Remove the new toner cartridge from the box. Then remove the toner cartridge from its protective bag. Open protective bag by cutting it with scissors, etc., so as not to damage the cartridge. IMPORTANT • Store the cartridge in its package until you are ready to install the cartridge in the printer. • Save the protective bag. You may need it later when removing the toner cartridge for maintenance of the printer.
7 Place the cartridge on a flat surface and remove the packing materials (2 pieces). Put your fingers in the tabs and pull them straight out toward you. IMPORTANT • Do not touch the drum protective shutter of the toner cartridge when you remove the packing materials. • Dispose of the packing materials after separating them from the string.
8 Remove the tapes and protective cover. Remove the tapes in the order shown below 1, 2. Remove the protective cover with the tape 2. 1 2 Protective Cover IMPORTANT • Save the protective cover. You may need it later when removing the toner cartridge for maintenance of the printer. 9 Hold the toner cartridge as illustrated below and gently rock it 5 or 6 times to evenly distribute the toner. IMPORTANT • If the toner is not evenly distributed, this may cause a deterioration in print quality.
10 Place the cartridge on a sturdy surface, then gently pull the sealing tape (70 cm long) straight out of the cartridge while holding the cartridge. Put your finger in the tab of the sealing tape and pull it straight out. Drum Protective Shutter IMPORTANT • Do not pull the sealing tape diagonally upwards or downwards as the tape may snap off. If you do not remove the sealing tape completely, you may not be able to use the toner cartridge. • Remove the sealing tape completely from the cartridge.
11 Grasp the right and left handles of the cartridge and insert it into the printer. Insert the toner cartridge into the slot with the same color labels attached 1. Then push it into the printer securely 2. 1 2 12 Remove the paper. IMPORTANT • When you remove the paper, do not touch the transfer belt, as this may scratch it.
13 Close the ETB unit. Use both hands to close the ETB unit securely, until it clicks. IMPORTANT • Be sure to close the ETB unit by using the right and left grips with green labels attached. • Do not leave the ETB unit open for a long time after installing a toner cartridge. 14 Close the lower cover 1, and then close the upper cover 2. Be sure to close the upper cover slowly by holding the right and left sides with both hands.
Canceling Printing To cancel printing currently being processed, follow the procedure described below to perform job cancel. Job cancel lets you cancel a job while data is being received or processed. It does not affect the print data for the next job or any other interface jobs for which data processing has not begun. IMPORTANT • Perform job cancel offline when data is being processed (when the ジョブ indicator is on or flashing).
ジョブキャンセル 2 Press [ ジョブ キャンセル ]. 03 ジョブ キャンセル 00 ジョブ スキップ セントロニクス 00 インサツ カノウ A4 The message <03 ジョブ キャンセル > appears on the display and the print data being processed is canceled. When processing takes time, such as when receiving data, the message on the display changes to <00 ジョブ スキップ >. When the message <00 インサツ カノウ > or <00 LIPS > appears on the display, job cancel is complete.
Checking Operations This printer is equipped with a status print function that allows you to check the menu settings and a font list function (LBP-2810 only) that allows you to print a list of the fonts installed in the printer as well as a sample list. Status Print Currently available printer functions and a list of setting values are printed in a status print. To perform a status print, follow the procedure described below. NOTE • Status print is set to print on A4-size.
The message <01 ステータス プリント > appears on the display and the status print begins. 4 Check the contents of the status print. A status print is printed as shown below. It allows you to check functions that can be currently used, provides a list of setting values in the printer function menu, and versions of software and hardware installed in the printer as well as the page count. IMPORTANT • The sample below may differ slightly from the actual status print being output from your printer.
When a Message Is Displayed When or Is Displayed If a problem has occurred in internal devices of the printer or if a problem has occurred while print data was being processed, an error message (error code and message) is displayed. An error code is the four-digit number as shown in the illustration below.
2 If the message is displayed again, turn the printer’s power to off. Disconnect the power plug and remove the earth cable from the earth terminal. Then contact the place where you purchased the printer. When you contact the place of purchase, describe the problem and quote the four-digit number. NOTE • When the message <5F-nn サービスコール > is displayed, condensation may have formed inside the printer. Let the printer stand for two hours or more so that it adjusts to the surrounding temperature and humidity.
Error Messages If the printer is unable to print for some reason, an alarm sounds, the error indicator lights up and an error message appears on the display. Furthermore, a warning message appears on the bottom of the display when you are required to take some sort of action, even though there is no problem with the print job. When these types of messages are displayed, take the following actions in response.
Cause and Remedy Message Cause: 14 X カートリッジ ナシ (X is Y , M, C, or K.) The toner cartridge for the color indicated on the display has not been installed or it has not been installed correctly. Remedy: Install the toner cartridge or re-install the toner cartridge correctly. Cause: The amount of remaining toner for the color indicated on the display is low. Remedy: Printing can be continued, however you should prepare the new cartridge.
