SPILL RESPONSE

QUICK GUIDE

1. PROTECT

Other than those assisting with the spill, evacuate

personnel. Assess the spill and identify the liquid. Put on

the safety goggles and chemical gloves provided in your

spill kit.

2. CONFINE

Confine the spill using sorbent socks. Overlap socks

several inches at the ends to prevent liquid from breaking

through. Use multiple layers of socks if liquid flow is heavy

or terrain is sloped.

3. CLEAN

Clean up the liquids with pads and pillows. Use pads for

quick absorbency, maximum coverage, or to wipe up

residue. Pillows (not included in portable spill kits) provide

maximum absorbency for larger volume spills.

4. DISPOSE

Place used sorbents in yellow hazmat bags and close

them with the plastic zip ties provided. Place full hazmat

bags back inside your spill kit container. Contact your

local hazmat center for information on disposal.

5. REFILL

Always reorder sorbents after using

them in the event of a future spill.
