Getting to know your VivoMini 1
Features Front view Top cover The removable top cover allows you access to the hard disk drive and the memory modules. IMPORTANT! Before removing the top cover, turn off your VivoMini and unplug the power cable. Optical Drive (on selected models) Your VivoMini’s optical drive may support several disc formats such as CDs, DVDs, recordable discs, or rewritable discs. Headphone/Headset/Microphone jack This port allows you to connect amplified speakers or headphones.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 port The USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Universal Serial Bus) port provides a transfer rate up to 5 Gbit/s. USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C® port This USB Type-C® (Universal Serial Bus) port provides a transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s. NOTE: This port provides a maximum of 5V / 3A output. Power button The power button allows you to turn the VivoMini on or off. You can also press the power button once to put your VivoMini to sleep mode.
Left view Air vents (exhaust vent) The air vents allow your VivoMini chassis to expel hot air out. IMPORTANT: For an optimum heat dissipation and air ventilation, ensure that the air vents are free from obstructions.
Right view Air vents (intake vent) The air vents allow cooler air to enter your VivoMini chassis. IMPORTANT: For an optimum heat dissipation and air ventilation, ensure that the air vents are free from obstructions.
Rear view Kensington® security slot The Kensington® security slot allows you to secure your VivoMini using Kensington® compatible VivoMini security products. Serial (COM) connector The 9-pin serial (COM) connector allows you to connect devices that have serial ports such as mouse, modem, or printers. Power input The bundled power adapter converts AC power to DC power for use with this jack. Power supplied through this jack supplies power to the VivoMini.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C®/DisplayPort combo port This USB Type-C® (Universal Serial Bus) port provides a transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s, and supports Display port 1.4. Use a USB Type-C® adapter to connect your VivoMini to an external display. NOTE: • When using only this port as a display output source, this port will support a resolution of up to 7680 x 4320 @30Hz, or 5120 x 2280 @120Hz. The resolution may also be affected by the cabling and output device. • This port provides a maximum of 5V / 3A output.

Using your VivoMini 2
Getting started Connect the AC power adapter to your VivoMini To connect the AC power adapter to your VivoMini: A. Connect the power cord to the AC power adapter. B. Connect the DC power connector into your VivoMini’s power (DC) input. C. Plug the AC power adapter into a 100V~240V power source. NOTE: The power adapter may vary in appearance, depending on models and your region.
IMPORTANT! • We strongly recommend that you use only the AC power adapter and cable that came with your VivoMini. • We strongly recommend that you use a grounded wall socket while using your VivoMini. • The socket outlet must be easily accessible and near your VivoMini. • To disconnect your VivoMini from its main power supply, unplug your VivoMini from the power socket.
Connect a display panel to your device You can connect a display panel or projector to your device that has the following connectors: • DisplayPort • HDMI™ connector • USB Type-C®/DisplayPort connector NOTE: These ports may vary per model. To connect a display panel to your VivoMini: Connect one end of a DisplayPort, HDMI™ or USB Type-C® cable to an external display, and the other end of the cable to your VivoMini’s DisplayPort, HDMI™ port, or USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C®/DisplayPort combo port.
Connect display via HDMI™ port Connect display via USB 3.
Connect the USB cable from keyboard or mouse You can connect generally any USB keyboard and mouse to your VivoMini. You can also connect a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard and mouse set. To connect a keyboard and mouse to your VivoMini: Connect the USB cable from your keyboard and mouse to any of the USB ports of your VivoMini. NOTE: The keyboard varies with country or region.
Turn on your VivoMini Press the power button to turn on your VivoMini.
Turning your VivoMini off If your VivoMini is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your VivoMini turns off. Putting your VivoMini to sleep To set your VivoMini to enter Sleep mode by pressing the Power button once, search for Control Panel in the Windows Search Box, then navigate to Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, and set When I press the power button to Sleep.
Load default BIOS settings To load the default values for each of the parameters in your BIOS: • Enter the BIOS by pressing or on the POST screen. NOTE: POST (Power-On Self Test) is a series of software controlled diagnostic tests that run when you turn on your VivoMini. • • • Navigate to the Exit menu. Select the Load Optimized Defaults option, or you may press . Select OK to load the default BIOS values.

3 Upgrading your VivoMini
IMPORTANT! • It is recommended that you install or upgrade the memory modules, wireless card, and solid state drive (SSD), under professional supervision. Visit an ASUS service center for further assistance. • Ensure that your hands are dry before proceeding with the rest of the installation process. Before installing any of the features in this guide, use a grounded wrist strap or touch a safely grounded object or metal object to avoid damaging them due to static electricity.
4. Lift and remove the top cover and set it aside. IMPORTANT! Remove the top cover carefully to prevent pulling on and causing damage to the cables connected. This may vary per model.
Removing the HDD layer 1. Remove the screw from the HDD layer. 2. Lift open the HDD layer. IMPORTANT! Lift the HDD layer carefully to prevent pulling on and causing damage to the cables connected.
Replacing the top cover and HDD layer NOTE: Ensure to organize the cables to prevent any damage to your VivoMini and to ensure the top cover and HDD layer can be replaced successfully. 1. Replace the HDD layer. 2.
3. Replace the top cover. 4. Flip the VivoMini over so that the bottom side is facing up. Replace the four (4) screws removed earlier, then replace the rubber feet.
Installing memory modules You may install a memory module to the bottom of the system or to the bottom layer of the system. To install a memory module to the bottom of the system: 1. Place the VivoMini on a flat stable surface, with its bottom side facing up. 2. Remove the screw from the bottom cover plate, then remove the bottom cover plate. 3. Align and insert the memory module into the slot and press it down until the retaining clips snaps back into place and it is securely seated in place.
4. Replace the bottom cover plate, then secure it using the screw removed earlier. To install a memory module to the bottom layer of the system: 1. Remove the top cover and HDD layer, please refer to Removing the top cover and Removing the HDD layer for more information. 2. Align and insert the memory module into the slot and press it down until the retaining clips snaps back into place and it is securely seated in place.
Installing the M.2 SSD You may install an M.2 SSD to the bottom layer of the system, or to the M.2 expansion card in the HDD layer. NOTE: The M.2 expansion card in the HDD layer is available on selected models. To install an M.2 SSD to the HDD layer of the system (on selected models): 1. Remove the top cover, please refer to Removing the top cover for more information. 2. Align and insert an M.2 SSD into a slot on the M.2 expansion card, then secure it with a screw. Repeat this step to install another M.
To install an M.2 SSD to the bottom layer of the system: 1. Remove the top cover and HDD layer, please refer to Removing the top cover and Removing the HDD layer for more information. 2. Align and insert an M.2 SSD into the M.2 slot, then secure it with a screw.
Installing the wireless card 1. Remove the top cover and HDD layer, please refer to Removing the top cover and Removing the HDD layer for more information. 2. (optional) Remove the M.2 SSD if an M.2 SSD is installed. To remove the M.2 SSD, remove the screw from the screw hole, then remove the M.2 SSD. 3. Align and insert the wireless card into its slot inside the VivoMini, then secure it with a screw. 4.
Installing 2.5” storage device NOTE: • • This bay supports 7mm/9.5mm 2.5” storage device. Some models may only support one (1) storage device. 1. Remove the top cover, please refer to Removing the top cover for more information. 2. Remove four (4) screws from the storage bracket, then remove the holder from the storage bracket.
3. Prepare your new storage device, then secure the storage device to the bracket using the bundled four (4) screws. 4. Connect the cable to the storage device, then align and place the bracket into the storage compartment of your VivoMini. IMPORTANT! Ensure the notches are aligned to the notch holes on the bracket.
5. Secure the bracket and storage device to the storage compartment of your VivoMini using the four (4) screws removed earlier.
Appendix
Safety information Your VivoMini is designed and tested to meet the latest standards of safety for information technology equipment. However, to ensure your safety, it is important that you read the following safety instructions.
