Read the ASUS Warranty Card before setting up your ASUS Desktop PC. • The Desktop PC does not support Windows® 7 operating system.
D900MD/D900MDES/M900MD Front panel ENGLISH 1. Power button & power indicator. Press this button to turn on your computer. The button also indicates if the computer is on. 2. HDD indicator. The LED lights up or blinks to indicate the status of the HDD. 3. Headphone port. This port connects to a headphone or speaker. 4. Audio combo port. This port connects to a microphone or a headphone. 5. USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.2 Gen 1) ports connect to USB 3.
ENGLISH D900MD/D900MDES/M900MD Rear panel 1. PS/2 mouse port (green). This port is for a PS/2 mouse. 2. PS/2 keyboard port (purple). This port is for a PS/2 keyboard. 3. DisplayPorts. These ports are for DisplayPort-compatible devices. 4. HDMI® port. This port is for a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI®) connector, and is HDCP compliant allowing playback of HD DVD, Blu-ray, and other protected content. 5. USB 3.2 Gen1 ports. These 9-pin Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports connect to USB 3.

14. Air vents. These vents allow air ventilation. 15. VGA port. This port is for VGA-compatible devices such as a VGA monitor. 16. Parallel port (optional). This 25-pin port connects a parallel printer, a scanner, or other devices. ASUS Desktop PC ENGLISH DO NOT block the air vents on the chassis. Always provide proper ventilation for your computer.
Installing memory in your computer DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DIMM_B1 DIMM_B2 1st ENGLISH This desktop PC comes with four Double Data Rate 5 (DDR5) Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets. The figure illustrates the location of the DDR5 DIMM sockets.
Press down and outward on the DIMM ejector to unlock the DIMM socket. ENGLISH 5. START RESET 6. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key of the DIMM socket, and then firmly insert the DIMM into the socket until the ejector snaps back into place. START RESET A A B 7. Setting up your computer ENGLISH This section guides you through connecting the main hardware devices, such as the external monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord, to your computer. Using the onboard display output ports Connect your monitor to the onboard display output port. To connect an external monitor using the onboard display output ports: 1. Connect a monitor to a display on the rear panel of your computer. 2. Plug the monitor to a power source.
Connecting a USB keyboard and a USB mouse ENGLISH Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer. ` Connecting the power cord Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a power source. For safety purpose, ONLY connect the power cord to a grounded electrical outlet.
Turning your computer ON ENGLISH This section describes how to turn on your computer after setting up your computer. Turning your computer ON To turn your computer ON: 1. Turn your monitor ON. 2. Chapter 2 Connecting devices to your computer Chapter 2 ENGLISH Connecting devices to your computer Connecting a USB storage device This desktop PC provides USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports on the front and rear panels. The USB ports allow you to connect USB devices such as storage devices. To connect a USB storage device: • Insert the USB storage device to your computer. You can enable or disable the front and rear USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.
Connecting microphone and speakers ENGLISH This desktop PC comes with microphone ports and speaker ports on both the front and rear panels. The audio I/O ports located on the rear panel allow you to connect 2-channel, 4-channel, 5.1-channel, and 7.1-channel stereo speakers. • When your Desktop PC comes with an internal speaker, the audio output will be from the internal speaker. • When you connect an external audio device such as earphone or speaker, you need to enable the audio device output.

Changing to the external audio output ENGLISH When you connect an external audio device to your Desktop PC, enable the audio device output to ensure a clear audio quality. To change to the external audio output: 1. Connect an external audio device such as earphone or speaker to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen automatically pops up. For the location of the rear Line Out port, refer to the section Getting to know your computer. 2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK. 3.
Connecting multiple external displays ENGLISH Your desktop PC may come with VGA, HDMI®, or DVI ports and allows you to connect multiple external displays. Setting up multiple displays When using multiple monitors, you are allowed to set display modes. You can use the additional monitor as a duplicate of your main display, or as an extension to enlarge your Windows desktop. To set up multiple displays: 1. Turn off your computer. 2.
Connecting an HDTV ENGLISH Connect a High Definition TV (HDTV) to the HDMI® port of your computer. • You need an HDMI® cable to connect the HDTV and the computer. The HDMI® cable is purchased separately. • To get the best display performance, ensure that your HDMI® cable is less than 15 meters.

Chapter 3 Using your computer Chapter 3 ENGLISH Using your computer Proper posture when using your Desktop PC When using your Desktop PC, maintaining the proper posture is necessary to prevent strain to your wrists, hands, and other joints or muscles. This section provides you with tips on avoiding physical discomfort and possible injury while using and fully enjoying your Desktop PC.
Using the memory card reader (Optional) ENGLISH Digital cameras and other digital imaging devices use memory cards to store digital picture or media files. The built-in memory card reader on the front panel of your system allows you to read from and write to different memory card drives. To use the memory card: 1. Insert the memory card into the card slot. • A memory card is keyed so that it fits in only one direction. DO NOT force a card into a slot to avoid damaging the card.
ENGLISH Using the optical drive (on selected models only) Inserting an optical disc To insert an optical disc: 1. While your system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay to open the tray. 2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side outward if the desktop is positioned vertically and the label side up if the desktop is positioned horizontally. 3. Push the tray gently to close it. 4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.
Configuring the USB ports using the BIOS ENGLISH You can enable or disable the USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports from the BIOS Setup. To disable or enable the USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports: 1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup. 2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Advanced > USB Configuration > USB Single Port Control. 3.
Configuring the HDD security setting using the BIOS You can set a password in the BIOS Setup to protect your HDD. 1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup. 2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Main and the selected HDD to open the HDD Password screen. 3. Select the Set Master Password item and press . 4. From the Create New Password box, key in a password, then press . 5.

Connecting via a DSL/cable modem To connect via a DSL/cable modem: 1. Set up your DSL/cable modem. Refer to the documentation that came with your DSL/cable modem. 2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a DSL/cable modem.
Connecting via a local area network (LAN) ENGLISH To connect via a LAN: 1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN. RJ-45 cable LAN 2. Turn on your computer. 3. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings. • Contact your network administrator for details or assistance in setting up your Internet connection.
Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection To configure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection: Launch Network and Sharing Center in either of these two ways: a) From the taskbar, right-click ENGLISH 1. , then click Open Network and Sharing Center. b) From the Start menu, click Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center. 2. From the Open Network and Sharing Center screen, click Change Adapter settings. 3. Right-click on your LAN and select Properties. 4.
Return to the Network and Sharing Center and then click Set up a new connection or network. 7. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next. 8. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next. 9. Wi-Fi moving antenna installation ENGLISH Installing the ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna Connect the bundled ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna connector to the Wi-Fi ports at the back of the chassis. • Ensure that the ASUS Wi-Fi moving antenna is securely installed to the Wi-Fi ports. • Ensure that the antenna is at least 20 cm away from all persons. The illustration above is for reference only. The I/O port layout may vary with models, but the WiFi moving antenna installation procedure is the same for all models.

My computer cannot be powered on and the power LED on the front panel does not light up. • Check if your computer is properly connected. • Check if the wall outlet is functioning. • Check if the Power Supply Unit is switched on. Refer to the section Turning your computer ON in Chapter 1. My computer hangs.
? The arrow keys on the number key pad are not working. ENGLISH Check if the Number Lock LED is off. When the Number Lock LED is on, the keys on the number key pad are used to input numbers only. Press the Number Lock key to turn the LED off if you want to use the arrow keys on the number key pad. ? ? ? 48 No display on the monitor. • Check if the monitor is powered on. • Ensure that your monitor is properly connected to the video output port on your computer.
? I want to restore or undo changes to my computer’s system settings without affecting my personal files or data. ? The picture on the HDTV is distorted. • It is caused by the different resolutions of your monitor and your HDTV. Adjust the screen resolution to fit your HDTV. To change the screen resolution: • ? • Ensure that you connect your speakers to the Line out port (lime) on the front panel or the rear panel. • Check if your speak is connected to an electrical source and turned on.
Power ENGLISH Problem No power (The power indicator is off) Possible Cause Action Incorrect power voltage • S et your computer’s power voltage switch to your area’s power requirements. • Adjust the voltage settings. Ensure that the power cord is unplugged from the power outlet. Your computer is not turned on. Press the power key on the front panel to ensure that your computer is turned on. Your computer’s power cord is not properly connected.
Problem Cannot access the Internet Possible Cause Action The LAN cable is not connected. Connect the LAN cable to your computer. LAN cable problems Ensure the LAN LED is on. If not, try another LAN cable. If it still does not work, contact the ASUS service center. Your computer is not properly connected to a router or hub. Ensure that your computer is properly connected to a router or hub. Network settings Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the correct LAN settings.
System ENGLISH Problem System speed is too slow The system often hangs or freezes. 52 Possible Cause Action Too many programs are running. Close some of the programs. Computer virus attack •U se an anti-virus software to scan for viruses and repair your computer. • Reinstall the operating system. Hard disk drive failure • S end the damaged hard disk drive to ASUS Service Center for servicing. • Replace with a new hard disk drive.
Problem Too noisy right after turning on the computer. Possible Cause Action Your computer is booting up. It is normal. The fan runs on its full speed when the computer is powering on. The fan slows down after entering the OS. The BIOS settings have been changed. Restore the BIOS to its default settings. Old BIOS version Update the BIOS to the latest version. Visit the ASUS Support site at https:// www.asus.com/support to download the latest BIOS versions. The CPU fan has been replaced.

Appendix Working with Windows® Appendix ENGLISH Working with Windows® Starting for the first time When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring your Windows® operating system. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure the following basic items: • Personalize • Get online • Settings • Your account After configuring the basic items, Windows® proceeds to install your apps and preferred settings.
Opening programs from the Start menu ENGLISH One of the most common uses of the Start menu is opening programs installed on your Computer. You can open programs in two ways: • Position your mouse pointer over the program then click to launch it. • Use the arrow keys to browse through the programs. Press to launch it. Windows® apps Some Windows® apps require signing in to your Microsoft account before they are fully launched.
3. Select a device from the list to pair your computer with the device. ENGLISH For some Bluetooth-enabled devices, you may be prompted to key in the passcode of your computer. Connecting to wired networks You can also connect to wired networks, such as local area networks and broadband Internet connection, using your computer’s LAN port. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details or your network administrator for assistance in setting up your Internet connection.
