Ashman Short Handle Transfer or Mini Square Shovel
A Short Handle Transfer Shovel, also known as a Mini Square point shovel, is a versatile tool
commonly used for tasks like digging, lifting, and moving materials such as soil, gravel, or mulch.
Here's a guide on how to use a square shovel and how to maintain it for optimal performance:
Using a Short Handle Transfer Shovel (Mini Square Point Shovel):
1. Select the Right Shovel:
Choose a square point shovel with a flat, square-shaped blade for efficient digging and transferring of
materials.
2. Check the Condition:
Inspect the shovel for any damage, such as bent or cracked blades, and ensure the handle is secure.
3. Wear Safety Gear:
Always use sturdy work gloves, closed-toe shoes, and eye protection for safety.
4. Position Yourself:
Hold the shovel handle with both hands, one hand on the grip and the other on the handle shaft. Keep
your hands spaced for better control.
5. Grip the Handle:
Hold the shovel handle with both hands, one hand on the grip and the other on the handle shaft. Keep
your hands spaced for better control.
6. Digging Technique:
Insert the shovel blade into the soil or material with a slight angle, using the flat edge to lift and transfer
the material.
Use your foot to drive the blade into the ground, and then lift and move the material by tilting the shovel.
7. Lift with Your Legs:
When lifting the shovel, bend your knees and lift with your leg muscles rather than your back to prevent
injuries.
