Basics Data Buses - 19
provides user with the ability to add additional hard drives
or removal media devices to their system.
The Power Macintosh G3 Minitower and Macintosh Server
G3 units that support this feature can only be identified by
looking at the logic board itself and verifying the revision of
the built-in video ASIC made by ATI Technologies. If you are
looking at the logic board with the rear connector towards
you, the video ASIC is located approximately 1” from the
built-in video connector on the logic board.
If the ASIC reads: “ATI 3D Rage II+DVD,” the logic board
does not support the master and slave configuration; If the
controller reads: “ATI 3D Rage Pro PCI,” the logic board
does support the master and slave configuration.
Note:
Although the ATI chip is an ideal way to identify the
version of the logic board, it does not control the EIDE
interface.
