Operating Instructions 1 Safety The safety features of AEG electrical appliances comply with accepted technical standards and the German Appliance Safety Law. However, we also consider it our obligation as a manufacturer to inform you about the following safety information. Prior to initial start-up • Observe the "Installation and Connection Instructions" in this instruction book.
Child Safety • Packaging materials (e.g. films, styrofoam) can be dangerous for children. There is a risk of suffocation! Keep all packaging well away from children. • This appliance is designed to be operated by adults. Do not allow children to tamper with the controls or play with the appliance. • Pets and children have been known to climb into washing machines. Please check the drum before use. • When disposing of the appliance, cut off the mains cable, and destroy the plug.
2 Disposal Packaging Dispose of the packaging material correctly. All packaging materials used are environmentally friendly and can be disposed of without any danger to the environment. • Plastic parts can be recycled and are identified as follows: >PE< for polyethylene, e.g. the outer covering and the bags in the interior. >PS< for polystyrene, e.g. padding (always CFC-free) >POM< for polyoxymethylene, e.g.
Switching on the appliance for the first time – setting the language When switching on the appliance for the first time you must set the language in which you want the indicators in the display to appear. 1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the control knob so that it is no longer flush in the control panel. The display in the middle of the control panel will illuminate, and the appliance is switched on. The selection of possible languages will appear in the right of the display.

Main control features This chapter describes how to set a large number of functions and combine them with each other using only a few control elements (1 control knob and 4 buttons). This simple control method is made easy thanks to the interactive display. Interactive means that the washing machine display changes to reflect each step you have entered. This ensures that only those settings that make sense are made.
Navigation display The functions are detailed over levels and pages within the washing machine display. Level 3 (Current level) Level 2 Level 1 Current page One level can include a number of pages. Total number pages You can see from the navigation display which level and page you are currently on (here: level 3, page 1 of 2). Control knob and pages You can highlight the entries on the right of the display by turning the control knob. Turning the knob anti-clockwise moves the area highlighted down.
Buttons and levels Using the buttons you can: – select the option that is next to the button on the right, e.g. START; – change settings, e.g. temperature; – change to another display level, e.g. using the OPTIONS button. 1. Overview of functions Programmes (Level 1) Wash programmes 2 LINEN/EASY-CARE Wash programme (20 °C to 60 °C) for cottons/ LINEN/EASY-C. 60°C 1600 RPM 10:17-12:16 coloureds (cotton/linen), easy-care (mixed fabî rics, e.g. cotton/polyester) and synthetics. LINGERIE Gentle wash programme which washes at 40 °C for fine and delicate fabrics. Important: Place padded lingerie in a washing net or bag. 40°-60° MIX Programme for coloureds when various wash temperatures are indicated for the items to be washed. Various items which according to the care labels are usually washed separately at 40 °C or 60 °C can be washed together in the 40°-60° MIX programme. In this way the drum capacity is better used and energy is saved as a result.
3 DRAIN Draining of water following a rinse hold (without spinning). Rinse hold means: The washing is left to soak in the final rinse water; it is not spun. SENSITIVE S A special additional function with considerably more effective rinse function (additional rinse cycle) an improved fabric care at the same time (reduced drum movement). This is ideal when frequent washes are necessary, for example in cases of highly sensitive skin. An additional rinse cycle (RINSE+) is able to be selected in addition (see chapter “Extras”). If SENSITIVE has been set, S is displayed in the symbol row. STAIN F For heavily soiled or stained washing.

Preparing for a wash cycle Sorting and preparing the washing • Sort the washing according to care symbols (see Section "Types of washing and care symbols"). • Empty out the pockets. • Remove metal objects (such as paper clips, safety pins, etc.). • To avoid damage and tangling: close zips, button pillow-cases and duvet covers, tie together loose tapes and strings (for example on aprons). • Turn items with double-layered fabrics inside out (sleeping bags, anoraks, etc.).
Types of washing and care symbols Care symbols help you to choose the correct wash programme. Washing should be sorted by type and according to care symbols. The temperatures indicated on the care symbols are the maximum wash temperatures. Cottons O Cotton and linen items with this care symbol are not sensitive to machine washing or high temperatures. The COTTONS programme is suitable for such items. Coloureds M J Cotton and linen items with this care symbol are not sensitive to machine washing.
Detergent and Conditioners Which detergent and conditioners? Only use detergents and conditioners that are suitable for use in washing machines. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Carrying out a wash programme prior to first use Prior to washing your first load, carry out a wash cycle without washing (LINEN/EASY-C. 60°, with half the amount of detergent). This will remove residues remaining as a result of the production process from the drum and water container. 1. Press the control knob. The appliance is switched on. 2. Place the detergent in the left compartment of the detergent drawer. 3. Press the START button. The wash programme will start. LINEN/EASY-C.
Performing a wash cycle Opening and closing the door 3 • To open: pull the handle on the door. • To close: firmly push the door shut If the O symbol is showing in the display, the door can be opened. If the N symbol is showing in the display, the door is blocked. If the error message PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR is showing in the display, you have attempted to start a wash programme without having correctly shut the door. Should this happen, firmly press the door shut and restart the wash programme.
Adding detergents/conditioners 3 For instructions on the use of detergents and conditioners, please see the section “Detergents and conditioners”. 1. Open the detergent drawer: close your fingers around the flap at the bottom of the drawer (1); pull out the drawer as far as it will go (2). 2.
3 If using liquid detergents/tablets: Add the liquid detergent or tablets using the measuring container provided by the detergent manufacturer. Follow the instructions on the detergent packaging. Setting a wash programme 1. Press the control knob. The appliance is now switched on. 2. Use the control knob to highlight the desired wash programme, e.g. DELICATES. Starting a wash programme 3 1. Check that the water tap is open. 2. After you have set the wash programme and any options, press the START button. The wash programme will start. Wash programme progress Each current stage of the programme is shown in the display during the wash programme, e.g. main wash, and a bar showing the programme progress. The N symbol is displayed as the programme progresses: the loading door is locked. When the wash programme is complete 3 3 When a wash programme is complete, PLEASE TAKE OUT THE CLOTHES will appear in the display. If you do not press any buttons or press the control knob within three minutes of the programme finishing, the washing machine will switch into standby mode. The stand-by mode is cancelled by pressing one of the buttons or turning the knob. If EASY IRON has been selected, a crease prevention cycle of approx. 30 minutes takes place after the programme has ended.
3. Press the START button. – If short spin is selected the water will be drained and the washing gently spun. – If drain is selected the water will be drained (without being spun). Unloading the washing If the O§symbol is shown in END the display, the door can be O§ opened. PLEASE TAKE OUT THE CLOTHES 1. Open the door using the ############### handle. MOISTURE 32 % 2. MEMORY Saving a programme setting 3 The MEMORY basic setting can be used to save frequently-used programme combinations (wash programme, temperature, spin speed and option/s). There are four memory cells available for this purpose. The saved programme can then be selected in the same way as any other wash programme. Extras cannot be saved using MEMORY. They must be set separately and remain active until they are cancelled. Example: LINEN/EASY-C., 40 °C, 1200 RPM spin, with SENSITIVE option. 1.

Changing the language You can change the language setting if you would like the indicators in the display to appear in a different language. 1. Press the control knob. 6. Use the control knob to highlight the desired language, e.g. English. As soon as the language is highlighted, the indicators in the display will change to this language. 7. Use the SELECT button to save the selected language. All indicators in the display will immediately appear in this language.
Maintenance and Cleaning Control panel Important! Do not use household furniture polish or abrasive cleaners to clean panel and operating parts. Wipe over the operating panels with a damp cloth. Use warm water. Detergent Dispenser Drawer The detergent dispenser drawer should be cleaned from time to time. 1. Pull the detergent dispenser drawer out as far as it will go. 2. Remove the detergent dispenser drawer by pulling sharply. 3. Take the conditioner insert out of the middle compartment. 4.
7. Use a brush to clean the entire compartment area of the washing machine, particularly also the nozzles on the top side of the compartment. 8. Set the detergent dispensing drawer into the guide tracks and push it in. Washing Machine Drum The washing machine drum is made from rust-free stainless steel. Any objects left in the laundry which are likely to rust can stain the drum.
What to do if... Remedying a malfunction In the event of a malfunction, try to rectify the problem yourself with the aid of the instructions provided here. If you request a visit from customer service to remedy one of the malfunctions listed here, or to rectify an error made when using the appliance, the customer service engineer’s visit will not be free of charge, even during the warranty period.

Problem The washing has not been spun thoroughly and water remains visible in the drum. ATTENTION CD 2 / PLEASE CHECK THE WATER DRAINAGE is showing in the display. 46 Possible cause Remedy The outlet hose is kinked. Straighten the hose. The maximum pump height (outlet height 1m from the washing machine’s installation surface) has been exceeded. Contact Service Force, who will be able to provide an adaptor kit for pump lifts greater than 1m as a special accessory. The drain pump is clogged.
If the washing results are not satisfactory If the washing turns greyish and limescale deposits are present in the drum • Insufficient detergent has been added. • Incorrect detergent was used. • Stains were not pre-treated. • Programme or temperature was not set correctly. • If using modular detergents, the individual components were not used in the correct ratio. If there are still grey stains on the washing • Soiled garments with ointments, grease or oils were washed with insufficient detergent.
Carrying out an emergency emptying 1 • If the washing machine no longer pumps out the water, emergency emptying must be carried out. • If the washing machine is located in a room in which below freezing temperatures might occur, emergency emptying must be carried out. Furthermore: unscrew the inlet hose from the water tap and drain off the water. Empty the drainage hose. Warning! Switch off the washing machine and pull out the mains plug prior to performing emergency emptying.
When the water is completely drained: 6. Push the plug securely into the emergency emptying hose and turn it clockwise to secure it. 7. Replace the emergency emptying hose in its holder. 8. Put on the flap and close. Drain pump The drain pump is maintenance free. The cover of the drain pump must only be opened in the event of a malfunction when no more water is being pumped out, e.g. if the pump is blocked.
5. Replace the pump cover. Laterally insert the webs on the cover into the guide slots and screw on the cover in a clockwise direction. 6. Close the emergency emptying hose and place it in the holder. 7. Close the flap. Anti-flood Aqua Control + Aqua Alarm The inlet hose has a mechanical built in safety device. In the event of the filling hose failing, the safety device will automatically shut off the water supply.
Child Safety Feature If the child safety feature is set, the door cannot be closed and no washing programme can be started. Setting the child safety feature Use a coin to turn the rotary knob on the inside of the door clockwise as far as it will go. 1 Warning! The rotary knob must not be in a vertical position after adjustment, otherwise the child safety feature is not active. The rotary knob must project as shown in the diagram.
Consumption values and load sizes Consumption values The values for selected programmes provided in the following table were determined under normal conditions. As well as being dependent on the settings selected (additional functions), the consumption values are also dependent on external factors such as water temperature or detergent used. Nonetheless, they serve as a helpful guide for normal household use.

Installation and connection instructions Installation Safety Precautions • When moving do not tilt the washing machine onto its front or onto its right hand side (viewed from the front). This is to prevent the possibility of the electronic components becoming wet. • Before installation inspect the machine for transport damage. Do not connect the appliance if it is damaged - contact your retailer. • Ensure all packaging and transit bolts/bars have been removed, see „Removal of Transit Packaging“.
Installation of the appliance Transporting the appliance • Do not place the washing machine on its front or on its right hand side (viewed from the front). This is to prevent the possibility of the electronic components becoming wet. • Never transport the unit without the transport packaging and bolts/ bars. Do not remove the transport packaging until the appliance is at the installation location. Transporting the unit without the transport packaging can damage it. • Never lift the appliance by the door.
3 2. Pull both hose holders off the appliance with a strong pull. The special spanner A and the caps B (2 each) and C (1 each) are supplied with it. 3. Remove the screw D, including the compression spring with the special spanner A. 4. Cover the hole with the cap C. Important! When fitting the plastic caps, press until they snap into the rear panel securely. 5. Remove the two screws E with the special spanner A. 6. Remove the 4 screws F. 7. Remove the transit bar G. 8.
Installation-Site preparation • The installation surface must be clean, dry and level. Do not install on a deep pile carpet. • Minor unevenness of the floor surface should never be levelled out by laying pieces of wood, card or similar materials, but should always be compensated for by adjusting the screw feet. • If the appliance is installed next to a heat source (e.g. cooking appliance), a heat insulating pad (87x57cm) must be placed between the appliance and the heat source.
Installation on a Suspended Floor Suspended wooden floors are particularly susceptible to vibration. To help prevent vibration we recommend you place a waterproof wood panel, at least 15mm thick under the appliance, secured to at least 2 floor beams with screws. If possible install the appliance in one of the corners of the room, where the floor is more stable. Levelling the appliance 3 58 Self adjusting foot: The rear foot of your washing machine is designed like a spring leg.
Electrical Connection 1 Any electrical work required to install this appliance should be carried out by a qualified electrician or competent person. WARNING – THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED. The manufacturer declines any liability should these safety measures not be observed. Before switching on, make sure the electricity supply voltage is the same as that indicated on the appliance rating plate. The rating plate is located at the top of the rim of the open door.
Permanent Connection 5 1 60 In the case of a permanent connection it is necessary that you install a double pole switch between the appliance and the electricity supply (mains), with a minimum gap of 3mm between the switch contacts and of a type suitable for the required load in compliance with the current electrical regulations. The switch must not break the yellow and green earth cable at any point.
Water connection 3 The washing machine is provided with safety devices preventing backcontamination of the water supply and complies with local water authority requirements. This appliance is designed to be permanently plumbed into your home’s water supply. Before connecting up the machine to new pipework or to pipework that has not been used for some time, run off a reasonable amount of water to flush out any debris that may have collected in the pipes.
Inlet Hose Connection 3 62 A pressure hose 1.5m in length is supplied. If a longer inflow hose is required, only a VDE-approved, complete set of hoses with fitted hose screw connections offered by your local Service Force Centre is permissible. – Hose sets in lengths of 2.2m, 3.5m and 5m are available for washing machines without Aqua Control. – Hose sets in lengths of 2.0m, 2.9m and 3.9m are available for washing machines with Aqua Control.
Water Drainage The appliance drain hose should hook into a standpipe, the hook in the drain hose is formed using the plastic “U-Piece“ supplied. The standpipe should have an internal diameter of approximately 38 mm (see diagram) thus ensuring there is an air break between the drain hose and standpipe. Important!
