Pickerel Rush, Pontederia cordata, is a native of North America and is one of the most popular and recognizable pond plants. It is very hardy and will grow well under almost any condition. It has 6 in. to 8 in. flower spikes of soft to deep blue color with very nice dark green heart-shaped leaves. This perennial aquatic plant stays in clumps but may need dividing or thinning out after a few years of growth. It blooms from early summer to late fall. Butterflies love it.
