Description
Lavalle Hawthorn is a small, but tough, tree in the rose family that is a hybrid between 2 hawthorns found in 1870 at the Arboretum Segrez in France and is named for the horticulturist who developed it. Large snow-white flower clusters blossom in Spring that develop into large red-orange berries by autumn that persist well into Winter after the leaves have fallen, giving this Hawthorn tree a unique cold-season appeal while providing a bit of nourishment for local wildlife. Leaves also develop beautiful bronzed-red fall colors. Branches boast long thorns up to 2 in. L. Lavalle reaches a height of about 25 ft., with a spread of 10 ft. and grows best in USDA Cold Hardiness Zones 4 to 8. Lavalle may also be pruned to grow as a large multi-stemmed shrub if desired.
