PLA6456 FAQ
1) Can the PLA6456 work across two different power circuits?
a. Yes, the G.hn signal is capable of jumping between circuits on the same
breaker panel, however there will be some performance loss.
2) Can the PLA6456 work in homes with multiple circuit breakers?
a. The G.hn signal is not capable of working across multiple circuit
breakers/panels. All circuits need to be on the same panel to work.
3) Can I use the PLA6456 in my office/warehouse/other industrial building?
a. No, commercial power lines are often subject to longer cable runs and more
sources of interference than more tightly regulated home power lines, the
PLA6456 is not likely to work in most commercial applications.
4) My home breaker panel uses AFCI or GFCI modules, will those work with the
PLA6456?
a. It most cases this should be fine, but there are cases where certain models
of AFCI or other breaker module prevent the G.hn signal from passing.
5) Can PLA6456 connect with HomeAV Powerline products, such as PLA5456, PLA5256?
a. No, PLA6456 uses a different protocol than the PLA5456 and our other
powerline products. The PLA6456 uses a technology called G.hn, while the
PLA5456, PLA5405v2, and others use HomePlug Technology.
6) Can I use my PLA6456 at the same time I use my Homeplug based powerline
adapters?
a. No, G.hn and Homeplug use the same frequencies, but different protocols,
which will cause interference with each other.
7) Will PLA6456 work with only two-prong power plug?
a. We don’t recommend using the PLA6456 with a 2 prong outlet. There will
be significant performance hit when going from 3 prongs to 2 in most cases,
and in addition 2-prong to 3-prong adapters may cause a fire hazard by not
allowing the PLA6456 to sit flush with the wall?
8) Can I plug the PLA6456 into a surge strip / multi-outlet adapter?
a. For best performance the PLA6456 should be plugged directly into the wall,
bypassing any multi-outlet adapters or surge striops.
9) What is the LED behavior?
