User Manual

The newest surround technology “DTS:X” is now supported.
By playing back DTS:X contents, you can enjoy realistic sound from any direction
including from overhead, bringing astounding clarity and power to home theaters, and
providing a detailed and deep experience that’s just like real life.
The unit also supports Neural:X, which can create a real acoustic space (including
overhead) even when a conventional content is played.
Playing back DTS:X contents
To get the most from DTS:X contents, follow the procedure below to lay out the
speakers and configure the settings.
Placing speakers
We recommend using presence speakers to have a full effect of DTS:X contents.
*Except front 5.1-channel system using surround speakers
Necessary settings
The following settings are required to play back DTS:X contents.
In the “Setup” menu, select “Sound” and set “Object Decode Mode” to “Enable”.
Select one of the following sound modes.
Press STRAIGHT to enable the straight decode mode.
Press PURE DIRECT to enable the Pure Direct mode.
Press SUR.DECODE on the remote control repeatedly to select “Neural:X” as the
surround decoder.
If these settings are not made, DTS:X contents are decoded as DTS-HD format.
(CX-A5100 only)
DTS:X contents can be played back even when any sound program is selected. However, the unit is set to
the straight decode mode when playing back DTS:X signals whose sampling rate is over 48 kHz.
Remarks
When DTS:X contents are played back, you can check the number of source
channels and objects (e.g. 7.1.4 + 1Object) in the input signal in “Audio Signal” in the
“Information” menu.
When DTS:X contents are played back, you can adjust the volume of dialogue sounds
in “DTS Dialogue Control (DTS Dialog)” in the “Option” menu.
When DTS:X contents are played back or when the Neural:X decoder is working,
YPAO Volume, Dialog Level, Extra Bass or Compressed Music Enhancer does not
work.
Glossary
DTS:X
DTS:X is the next generation object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology from DTS. Unbound from
channels, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive
soundscape - in front of, behind, beside and above the audience - more accurately than ever before. DTS:X
offers the ability to automatically adapt the audio to the speaker layout that best fits the space, from a
television’s built-in speakers to a home surround theater system to a dozen or more speakers in a
commercial cinema. Immerse yourself at www.dts.com/dtsx
Neural:X
Neural:X is the latest downmixing/upmixing and spatial remapping technology from DTS. It provides upmix
of Neural:X-encoded DTS:X signals and non-encoded (PCM) signals. In DTS:X for AVRs and Sound Bars,
Neural:X can produce up to 11.x channels.
DTS Dialog Control
DTS Dialog Control allows you to boost the dialog. This can be useful in noisy environments to help make
the dialog more intelligible. People with impaired hearing may also benefit. Note that the content creator
may disable the use of this feature in the mix, so that DTS Dialog Control may not always be available. Note
that updates to your AVR may add more functionality to DTS Dialog Control or increase the range of the
feature.
