Chapter 4 Advanced Adjustment Using the On Screen Display (OSD) The On Screen Display (OSD) allows you to navigate to and adjust all settings. The TV will save changes made to the settings, even after the TV is turned off. The OSD consists of several menu options: Picture Adjust, Audio Adjust, TV Tuner Setup and Global Setup. The main menu options vary depending on the selected input source.
VIZIO VF550XVT1A User Manual Picture Adjustment Picture Mode When the MENU button is pressed, the On Screen Display (OSD) appears. PICTURE adjustment is the default. Use the # or $ buttons to choose from Custom, Standard, Movie, Game, Vivid, Football, Golf, Basketball and Baseball. These global settings use different values for Backlight, Brightness, Sharpness, Color Enhancement, and Adaptive Luma to represent presets most appropriate to viewing those type of programs.
Contrast Press the " button to highlight the Contrast selection. Use the # or $ button to adjust the level. The Contrast adjusts the white level in the picture. If the contrast is too low the picture will look washed out and if the contrast is too high you will not be able to see any detail in the bright parts of a picture. Once the adjustments are completed press the EXIT button to exit the OSD completely. Color Press the " button to highlight the Color selection.

Advanced Adaptive Luma Press the " button to highlight Advanced Adaptive Luma. Large areas of brightness in the picture will result in a higher Average Picture Level (APL) and the overall picture will look too light. This feature will lower the APL to counteract this effect. Press the # or $ button to choose from the Off, Low, Medium, Strong or Extend setting. Once the adjustments are completed press the EXIT button to exit the OSD completely.
VIZIO VF550XVT1A User Manual Smooth MotionTM Effect The Smooth Motiontm Effect option activates Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation (ME/MC), which suppresses motion judder. Judder is often observed as a “stuttering” of the image when the camera pans across a scene, or there is horizontal motion in the scene. Film is typically shot at 24 frames per second. Any time that film is displayed at a frame rate that is not an even multiple of 24, judder will result.
Smooth Motion Demo This option splits the screen in half, displaying the picture without Smooth Motion processing on the left half of the screen, and with Smooth Motion processing on the right half of the screen. This allows you to determine the best results for you settings. Press the MENU key to exit the demo. Balance This option allows for compensation of one channel (Left or Right Audio) being higher or lower than the other in order to bring stereo effect back into balance. Once the adjustments are completed, press the EXIT button to exit the OSD completely. SRS TSHD (SRS TruSurround HD™) This option sets the SRS True Surround HD surround sound process.

Press OK to enter the DTV/TV Setup sub-menu. Press the " button to highlight the System Reset option.
Press the OK button on the remote to go to the next screen. The Mode Setting screen will be displayed. the OK button to accept the Home Mode or press the " button to select the Retail Mode. Note: Retail Mode uses the “Vivid” picture setting This enhances the TV picture while on display under high ambient lighting. The Home Mode uses the “Custom” picture setting, which is the more appropriate choice for the average home environment.

MTS (Multchannel Television Sound) This option allows the selection of a Second Audio Program, which may contain commentary or a different language, such as Spanish.
