Leyland Cypress
Cupressus × leylandii
Reliable, and always classic, the Leyland Cypress is the most popular choice for privacy trees in the
United States. Their popularity is for good reason, though, as these gorgeous evergreens grow 3-5
ft. per year. In addition to speedy growth, they have a consistent, symmetrical form that only
becomes more impressive as they mature. Be sure to leave room for these beauties to grow,
though, as they can get 60-70 ft. tall and 10 ft. wide.

Addapts to many soil types
Grows best in zone 6-10
Full sun-part shade
Very low maintenance once plant is established
Fertilize in spring with slow-release granular fertilizer
Water 2-3 times until week until established, then water as needed
Planting Tips
Water your Cypress thoroughly before starting
Begin by digging the hole 2-x times larger than the root ball
Remove the plant from the container and tease the root ball loosening the roots
You want the top of the root ball to be slightly above the soil level(approx. 1/4-1/2 inch)
Fill in around the plant with your mixture of well drained garden soil and organic matter of
choice
Add mulch to help regulated moisture
Water 2-3 times per week until established, then once a week as needed in dry conditions
Fertilize with a well-balance fertilizer (Repeat annually or biannually)
