Types of Playable Discs DVD (8 cm / 12 cm disc) Video CD (VCD) (8 cm / 12 cm disc) Audio CD (8 cm / 12 cm disc) In addition, this unit plays DVD -R, DVD -RW, SVCD, and CD-R / CD-RW that contains audio titles, MP3, WMA, and/or JPEG files. Notes: • Depending on the conditions of the recording equipment or the CD-R/RW (or DVD -R, DVD -RW) disc itself, some CD-R/RW (or DVD -R, DVD -RW) discs cannot be played on the unit.
Disc-related terms MPEG MPEG is an international standard for video and audio compression. MPEG-1 is used in encoding video for VCD and provides for multichannel surround sound coding such as PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS and MPEG audio. MP3 MP3 is a popular compression format used for digital audio files that yields very high near-CD quality. Scene (VCD) On a video CD with PBC (playback control) functions, moving pictures and still pictures are divided into sections called “scenes”.

Display Window Introduction DISC INDICATORS Flashes when a disc is loaded in the disk tray. Indicates sound mode is DOLBY PRO LOGIC or DOLBY PRO LOGIC II. Indicates encoding format of the current disc. Indicates the unit is playing back a disc or indicates the unit is pause playback of a disc temporarily. ANGLE active Programmed playback active. MUTE The speaker sound is muted.
Remote Control EJECT ALL POWER Opens and closes all disc tray. Turns DVD Home Theater System ON and OFF. DVD DISC Select the DVD Home Theater System’s function mode to DVD. To select desired a disc. D.INPUT FM/AM AUX To listen to an audio source connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL or COAXIAL) jack with video from AV IN or LINE IN 2. Selects external input source. Rear Panel AC Power Cord Plug into the power source. Introduction SPEAKER CONNECTORS Connect the six supplied speakers to these terminals. MONITOR OUT Connect to a TV with video inputs. HDMI OUT HDMI output providing a high quality interface for digital audio and video. FM ANTENNA CONNECTORS Connect the FM antenna to this terminal.
Installation and Setup Setting up the DVD Home Theater System The picture and sound of a nearby TV, VCR, or radio may be distorted during playback. If this occurs, position the DVD Home Theater System away from the TV, VCR, or radio, or turn off the unit after removing the disc. DVD Home Theater System Connections Depending on your TV and other equipment there are various ways you can connect the DVD Home Theater System.
Audio Connection to Optional Equipment Connect the DVD Home Theater System to your optional equipment for audio output. Introduction 1. Connect a VCR to the AV IN connectors (rear). 2. Connect an additional VCR to the LINE IN 2 connectors (front). 3. Connect an optical output of DVD Home Theater System (or Digital Device etc) to the OPTICAL IN connector. 4. Connect an coaxial output of DVD Home Theater System (or Digital Device etc) to the COAXIAL IN connector.
Antenna Connections Connect the supplied FM/AM antenna for listening to the radio. Connect the AM Loop antenna to the AM antenna connector. Connect he FM Wire antenna to the FM antenna connector. HDMI Connection If you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this DVD Home Theater System using a HDMI cable. HDMI compatible TV HDMI 1. Connect the HDMI OUT jack on the Home Theater System to the HDMI jack on a HDMI compatible TV or monitor (H). H 3. In stop mode, select HDMI mode by pressing HDMI on the remote control. Press RESOLUTION repeatedly to select the resolution you wish to change to then press PLAY. The DVD disc must not be playing in order to set the resolution.
Speaker System Connection Connect the speakers using the supplied speaker cords. To obtain the best possible surround sound, adjust the speaker parameters (volume, distance, etc.). Speaker Positioning In the case of normal position use the 6 speakers (2 front speakers, centre speaker, 2 rear speakers and subwoofer). If you want to play the excellent bass sound, DTS digital surround or Dolby Digital surround, you should connect a subwoofer. • Front speakers According to your listening position set up the speakers for equal distance. And by hearing position set up the interval between speakers to 45 degree. • Rear speakers Place left and right behind the listening area.
Selecting the Input/Output Source DVD AM/FM AUX Follow these guidelines to select and switch among the various DVD Home Theater System input and output sources: • DVD/CD To view output from the DVD deck: Press DVD on the remote or FUNCTION on the front panel until the DVD indicator on the front panel lights and output from the DVD deck is viewed on the TV screen. • AM/FM D.INPUT To listen to AM/FM radio broadcasts: Press AM/FM on the remote to toggle between AM and FM radio.

On-Screen Display You can display the general playback status on the TV screen. Some items can be changed using the menu. LANGUAGE By using the Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound. You can also set a language for the subtitles and the Setup menu, among other things. DISPLAY AUDIO DISPLAY TV Aspect 16 : 9 Display Mode Widescreen Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the receiver’s AUDIO options according to the type of audio system you use. Operation Playback Setup TO SELECT A PLAYBACK DISC Turn on the TV and select the video input source connected to the DVD Home Theater System. TO INSERT DISCS 1. Press OPEN/CLOSE on the unit. “OPEN SEL” will appear in the display window. Press DISC and press desired disc button (DISC 1-5) on the remote control. Tip: You can also use the disc number play buttons on the unit. Notes: The selected disc tray number will appear in the display window and on the TV screen.
Playing a DVD or Video CD DVD Use the b B v V buttons to select the title/chapter you want to view, then press ENTER to start. Press TOP MENU or MENU to return to the menu screen. VCD Use the number buttons to select the track you want to view and press RETURN to return to the menu screen. Menu settings and operating procedures may differ. Follow the instructions on the each menu screen. You also may set PBC to Off (See “PBC” on page 24).
DVD VCD 1. Press PAUSE/STEP on the remote control during playback. Advance the picture frame-by-frame by pressing PAUSE/STEP repeatedly. 2). 2. Each press of the ZOOM button changes the TV screen in the sequence: 100% size → 400% size → 1600% size → screen fit mode → 100% size Screen fit mode: You can change the way the image appears on the screen when you’re playing a DVD movie.
M/C You can play Photo, Music, and MOVIE files in Memory Cards with this DVD Home Theater System. 1. Insert a Memory Card until it fits into place. 2. Press DVD/CARD on the remote control. The Memory Card slot choice menu appears on the TV screen. Regarding Write Protect For cards that have a write protect switch, if the switch is on it will not be possible to write or erase the contents of the card.
Playing an Audio CD/Memory card or MP3/WMA Disc The DVD Home Theater System can play MP3/WMA formatted recordings on CD-ROM, CD-R, or CD-RW discs. Audio CD Once you insert an audio CD/Memory card a menu appears on the TV screen. Press v / V to select a track then press PLAY or ENTER and playback starts. Programmed Playback REPEAT PROGRAMMED TRACKS The program function enables you to store your favorite tracks from any disc in the DVD Home Theater System memory. A program can contain 30 tracks. 1. Press REPEAT during program playback. The repeat icon appears. 1. Insert a disc. Audio CD/Memory card or MP3/WMA Discs: AUDIO CD/Memory card or MUSIC menu appears. 2. Press PROG. The E mark will appear to the right of the word “Program” on the right side of the menu screen.
Viewing a JPEG Disc ZOOM Using this DVD Home Theater System you can view discs with JPEG files. Use zoom to enlarge the photo image. (see page 28) 1. Insert a disc and close the tray. Maintenance and Service Cleaning the unit Refer to the information in this chapter before contacting a service technician. To clean the DVD Home Theater System, use a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. HANDLING THE UNIT When shipping the unit Please save the original shipping carton and packing materials. If you need to ship the unit, for maximum protection, re-pack the unit as it was originally packed at the factory.
Additional Features SLEEP TIMER SETTING LAST SCENE MEMORY You can set the DVD Home Theater System to turn off automatically at a specified time. This receiver memorizes last scene from the last disc that is viewed. The last scene remains in memory even if you remove the disc from the receiver or switch off the receiver. If you load a disc that has the scene memorized, the scene is automatically recalled.
5.1 Speaker Setup This chapter includes important reference information to help you set your DVD Home Theater System. Troubleshooting Check the following guide for the possible cause of a problem before contacting service. Cause Correction No power. • The power cord is disconnected. • Plug the power cord securely into the wall outlet. The power is on, but the DVD Home Theater System does not work. • No disc is inserted. • Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD or, audio CD indicator in the DVD display is lit.)
