To switch between two channels: 1. Select the first channel you want to view. 2. Select a second channel with the Channel Number buttons (0–9, 100). 3. Press CH RTN. The previous channel will be displayed.

Introduction Watching picture-in-picture (PIP) The picture-in-picture (PIP) feature allows you to watch two pictures at the same time. The smaller picture comes from an external source, such as a VCR. To display a picture from an external source as a small picture: 1. Make sure you have connected the external source equipment properly. For more information, see “Connecting your TV” on page 5. 2. Turn on the TV and select the program you want to watch. 3. Press PIP once to display a small picture.

The main and small pictures will switch each time you press the SWAP button. Introduction Using the V-CHIP menu Some TV programs and movies include signals that classify the content of the program (violence, sex, dialog, language). The V-CHIP control feature in this TV detects the signals and blocks the programs according to your selections. To use this feature, perform the following setup.

Introduction Using the closed caption feature Connecting your TV The Closed Caption feature has two options: • Captions—An on-screen display of the dialogue, narration, and sound effects of programs and videos that are closed-captioned (usually identified in your local TV listing as “CC”). • Text—An on-screen display of information not related to the program, such as weather or stock reports (if available in your area). Introduction Adjusting the sound Connecting your TV Muting the sound Press MUTE to temporarily turn off the sound. While the sound is off, the screen will display the word MUTE in the lower right corner. To restore the sound, press MUTE again. When you press the MUTE button, the Closed Caption feature is automatically activated. To deactivate this feature, press the MUTE button again. This feature works only when the closed caption mode is set to OFF.
Introduction Using the surround sound feature The surround sound feature expands the audio listening field wider and deeper to create exceptional sound quality from the TV’s speakers. The feature uses stereo signals from a TV broadcast or video input. To turn on the surround sound feature: 1. Select the stereo mode following the steps under “Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts” on page 36. 2. Press SURROUND (or MENU then yz) to display the THEATER menu. 3. Press SURROUND (or x •) to highlight MATRIX.

Introduction Selecting the Audio OUT sound This feature allows you to select the sound source (MAIN or PIP) that is output from the Audio OUT jacks. This is useful when amplifying or recording the PIP sound with the external equipment while hearing the sound of the main picture through the built-in speakers.
