This manual contains important information on the safe operation of the device. Read
and follow the safety advice and instructions given. Retain the manual for future refer-
ence. If you pass the device on to others please include this manual.

For the transport and protective packaging, environmentally friendly materials

terials with your normal household waste, but make sure that they are collected for recy-

Safety instructions
Intended use
This device is meant to be used as a USB-supported microphone and audio inter-
face. Any other use or use under other operating conditions is considered to be
improper and may result in personal injury or property damage. No liability will
be assumed for damages resulting from improper use.
Danger for children
Ensure that plastic bags, packaging, etc. are disposed of properly and
are not within reach of babies and young children. Choking hazard!
Ensure that children do not detach any small parts (e.g. knobs or the
like) from the unit. They could swallow the pieces and choke! Never let unat-
tended children use electrical devices.

in conditions of extreme temperature or humidity
in extremely dusty or dirty areas
at locations where the unit can become wet
near magnetic elds
Interference with other electrical equipment
Using the device near radios or TV sets may cause interference. Then increase the
distance between the devices.
General handling
To prevent damage, never use force when operating the switches and controls.
Never immerse the appliance in water. Just wipe it with a clean dry cloth. Do not use
liquid cleaners such as benzene, thinners or ammable cleaning agents.
Keep foreign substances from the unit!
Keep the device away from containers with liquids. Should any liquid get into the unit,
this could lead to its destruction or re. Be sure not to let any metal objects into the
unit.
Possible hearing damage
With connected headphones, the device can produce volume levels that
may cause temporary or permanent hearing impairment. Do not operate
the device continuously at high volume. Decrease the volume level
immediately if you experience ringing in your ears or hearing impairment.

Operating elements
Using the device
1. Place the enclosed metal washers
against the inside of the microphone
holder.
2. Attach the enclosed plastic washers to
both case threads on the sides of the
microphone.
3. Place the microphone between the
support arms of the stand and screw the
microphone to the microphone stand
with the supplied hand screws.

4. Connect the mini USB port (t) of the microphone to the computer with the
included USB cable. It automatically recognizes the new device and installs the
required driver.
5. On computers with a Windows operating system, open the Control Panel, select
‘Sound’ and then right-click on the ‘Play and ‘Record’ pages to select the SC
500 USB as the default device. For computers with MacOS, the pages are called
‘input’ and output’. The microphone / audio interface is now ready for use.
6. Turn the volume control (w) to the left stop before connecting the plug of
the headphones cable into the headphone output (y). Then turn the volume
control to the desired position.
7. Adjust the input sensitivity of the microphone with the gain control (e). The far-
ther the microphone is away from the sound source to be recorded, the farther
the knob should be turned clockwise.
8. Use switch (r) to set the desired polar pattern:
| Stereo, for recording music performances etc.
| Omni, for recording situations where the sound is to be recorded coming
from all directions.
| Cardioid, for direct speech or vocal recordings.
| Figure eight, for recording situations where the sound is to be recorded
coming from the front and back.
