Assembly Instructions for The Energy Guardian® Universal Hatch Kit

Review all components and read all instructions carefully prior to assembly
Part A (Insulation Block): 1 @ 21” x 29”, thickness depends on R-Value ordered
Part B (Protective Barrier Sections): 4 @ 2” x 10” x 32”
Part C (Joist Framing Units or JFU): 2 @ 1½” x 10” x 22½ “
Tools and Materials
1. Caulk Gun- not supplied
2. The Energy Guardian® Speed Adhesive-available separately
3. Air sealing material sufficient to cover area where hatch cover meets the trim-not supplied

I. Placement of the Insulation Block Part A-See Figure 1
1. Trim the Block if necessary to fit the size of the existing hatch cover.
2. Apply adhesive to one side of the Block.
3. Adhere the Block to the attic side of the attic hatch cover.
4. Install continuous durable air sealing material on the attic side of the hatch trim.
II. Assembly of the Protective Baffle Parts B- See Figure 2
1. Bring Protective Barrier Sections to the attic
2. Place one of the baffle sections on top of the floor joist on one long side of the hatch opening.
3. Apply adhesive in an “X” pattern to one end of baffle section.
3. Join a 2
nd
section to the outside of the first section to form an L shape.
4. Repeat step with the remaining two sections and join the two L shapes to complete the protective
baffle.
III. If the attic has support trusses on two sides of the hatch opening, follow this step for those
sides.
1. Apply adhesive to the outside of the support trusses on one side of the hatch opening from the
bottom to a height of approximately 10 inches.
2. Place one Protective Barrier Section so that it fits snuggly to the truss on one side of the hatch
opening
3. Next, apply adhesive to the outside of the installed Section in 2. Attach two sections to form a U
Shaped configuration
4. Bring the remaining Protective Barrier Section into position so it fits snuggly against the outside
of the other support truss and joins the other three components to complete the protective baffle.
IV. Placement of the Joist Framing Units Parts C (JFU)
1. Place one JFU between the floor joists adjacent to one side of the protective baffle and slide down
to the drywall or sheetrock. Apply adhesive so that the portion of the JFU that extends above the
floor joist and attach to the baffle.
2. Repeat this step with the other JFU.
