W H A T IS M P 3? MP3, short for MPEG-1, AUDIO LAYE R 3 (an audio subset of an industry standard referr ed to as the Mov ing Pic ture Ex perts G roup), is a digital audio compression algorithm that achieves a compression factor of about 12:1 while preserving sound quality.
