Here are some helpful hints to get you started:
YOUR STORAGE SOLUTION
Use the easy to follow steps on the back page to get started
It's best to begin by measuring your closet walls and making a sketch or diagram on paper so that you can begin your closet
design.
For long hang sections, items such as dresses, place the closet pole about 60”-70” off the ground and use the extra space at
the top for new closet shelves.
Your closet design should be based on function. Think about the clothing and accessories you use most often and make sure
they are easily accessible and toward the front of the closet.
It is a good to idea to leave at least 12” between your ceiling and top closet shelf; this way you will have at least a foot of
storage space above your closet system for storage items such as shoes, small boxes, folded items, seasonal items, bags or
luggage.
Don't underestimate how much space you require for hanging clothes, and don't plan too much area for long hanging. With
today's fashions most people don't need more than 12 to 24 horizontal inches of long hanging space.
What style of closet doors do you have?
Reach in Closet
Bi- fold doors will take up about 4” of your door opening
Bypass doors only expose ½ of the closet at a time. Note where the opening is, you do not want to put a shelf unit in a spot
you can only reach half of and if there are drawers they will not be able to
open all the way
Walk in Closet
Note where the door swings inside the closet. You will need 24” behind the open door to hang clothes
A typical walk in closet requires a minimum of 2ft. 6in. to walk comfortably between rows of hanging clothing.
A closet over 10' wide will allow you to add more shelving and or drawers. Be sure to account for closet door locations when
planning drawer placement.
Take inventory of what you have to store. How much long hanging, double hanging and folded space do you need? General
clothing dimensions are listed below for your convenience:
