Port Function
1 Removable Backing
• Remove backing to expose the Adhesive
Surface.
2 Adhesive Surface
• Used to secure the Unit Lable in place on the
rack.
Note: The unit labels are easy to apply and, if
necessary, you can reuse them.
3 U-marking
• Used to indicate U space.
Note: Each unit labels is 52 rack units long, but
you can cut them to t properly in your server
rack.

• Scissors (if you need to cut the label)

Installation
Preparing the Rack Surface
The surface that you apply the unit labels to must be dry and free of contaminants.
Otherwise, the adhesive won’t stick to the surface.
1. To clean the surface, use isopropyl alcohol or a similar substance to remove any dirt
or contaminants.
2. Dry the surface thoroughly.
Applying the Unit Label
The unit label has some stretch and ex to it. Make sure that you line up the label with
the corresponding rack units as you apply the label.
1. If necessary, use scissors to cut the unit label to t the server rack that you’re using.
Note: Make sure that you cut the unit label along the U markings on the label.
2. Peel o a small section of the removable backing from the label.
3. Place the exposed adhesive surface on the server rack, making sure to line up the U
markings on the label with the server rack units.
4. Apply rm and continuous pressure to the unit label and rack as you peel o the
removable backing.
Removing the Unit Label
1. Remove the unit label from the server rack, grab one end of the label and carefully
pull it o of the rack.
2. Clean the surface, use isopropyl alcohol or a similar substance to remove any dirt or
contaminants.
3. If necessary, reapply the unit label to another server rack.
What is a U?
• Server racks are classied by U size and depth. U is the standard unit of
measurement used to designate the vertical usable space of a server rack, or
the height of racks and cabinets. 1U is equal to 1.74 in. For example, if a rack is
designated as 20U, it has 20 rack spaces for equipment and has 35 in. (20 times 1.75)
of vertical usable space.
Note: The Unit Lable includes two unit labels that are each 52 rack units long.
