INTRODUCTION Introduction Thank you for purchasing this Digital Piano. This piano is user friendly and portable. It has powerful melody control functions and 48 memories, making it convenient for live performances. The SYNTH mode can be used to create an abundance of musical programs, while other features include a multitask pedal and a built-in multi-track recorder. Before using the piano, we recommend that you read through this instruction manual carefully and keep it aside for future reference.
The Power Jack This piano can be powered from a standard household wall socket by using the specified AC adaptor. The power jack is located on the left panel of the piano body. Please be sure to use the exact type of adapter as specified for this appliance, namely 12V DC output, centre positive type. Always ensure that the piano is switched off before connecting the adaptor into the power socket and the adaptor cable into the unit.
CONNECTORS Connectors the headphone jack There are two phone jacks. One phone jack will shut off the speakers when in use, while the other phone jack allows the speakers to carry on playing simultaneously. Speakers are shut off when both headphone jacks are being used. Caution: • Never use the headphones at excessive volume levels, as this entails a high risk of impaired hearing. • To avoid damaging the speakers, ensure that the volume is set to the minimum level before connecting to the power supply.
An optional footswitch can be plugged into the SUSTAIN jack to enable sustain control. This footswitch functions as per the sustain pedal on an acoustic piano. Press for added sustain. the volume jack An optional foot controller can be plugged into the VOLUME jack for adjusting the volume of sound. the midi in / out ports MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface.

dsp effect The DSP effect will give added headroom to the tone of the keyboard, making it sound fuller & wider. 1. The DSP default setting is ON. The « DSP » flag will be lit up on the LCD when the keyboard is switched on. Press the « DSP » button to turn on/off the DSP effect. touch response 1. There are 3 types of TOUCH RESPONSE (see FUNCTION menu for details). 2. The default TOUCH setting is MEDIUM. The « TOUCH » flag will be lit up on the LCD. Press the « TOUCH » button. LCD will display the current TOUCH RESPONSE type. Press the « TOUCH » button again to turn off the TOUCH RESPONSE (LCD will display « Touch Mode: Off »). TOUCH transpose 1. Press the « TRANSPOSE » button. LCD will display « Transpose=000 ».
3. Pressing the « STYLE » button will light up the « STYLE » flag. STYLE name « 001 8 Beat 1 » will appear on the upper line. STYLE RHYTHM STYLE 1 2 3 4. The RHYTHM STYLE can be selected by using6 the (+) & (-) buttons, the numeric keypad, or the 4 5 DIAL. 7 8 9 - 0 + Note: • When numeric keypad is used to select the style, the keyboard will check the validity of the number you enter. • When the language setting is Chinese, the « STYLE » flag on the LCD is displayed in Chinese ideographs.
3. Start after ending: When STYLE function is not activated, press the « ENDING » button & then the « START/ STOP » button to start the intro. The NORMAL style will follow the ENDING section. SYNC START START / STOP INTRO FILL-IN A FILL-IN B ENDING SYNC STOP ACCOMPANIMENT CONTROL RHYTHM STYLE 4. SYNC Start: Press the « SYNC START » button. LCD will flash 4 beats of the current tempo. Press the « INTRO » or the « ENDING ». In this mode, playing the keyboard will start the STYLE automatically.
4. When in VARIATION mode, press the « FILL-IN A » button to insert a single measure fill. LCD will flash the « NOR » flag and then rhythm will change to NORMAL style. RHYTHM STYLE FILL-IN B Note: • If you press the « FILL-IN A » or the « FILL-IN B » button during the last beat of a measure, a fill is inserted after the current measure finishes. • If you press and hold the « FILL-IN A » or the « FILL-IN B » button, the selected fill will play repeatedly until the button is released.
3. SYNC Stop: - When ABC mode is on and STYLE is playing, press the « SYNC STOP » button. The « SYNC STOP » & « SYNC START » flags will light up on the LED, while 4 beats of the current tempo flash before the rhythm stops playing. In this mode, RHYTHM STYLE can be activated by pressing on the keyboard and stopped by releasing it. - Pressing the « DEMO » or « RECORD » buttons will make the keyboard quit SYNC STOP mode.
2. To quit ABC mode, simply press the « ABC » button again. RHYTHM STYLE Split Point FG 3. There are two ways to detect the chord: Single Finger Detect and Fingers Detect. If the chord playing corresponds with Fingers Detect, it is recognized as the Fingers Chord. If not, Single Finger Chord will be recognised. 4. Single Finger Chord: The chord types that can be produced in single finger operation are major, minor, seventh and minor seventh. The diagram shows how to play the four chord types.
tempo 1. Press the « TEMPO+ » or the « TEMPO- » button to adjust the TEMPO. The tempo value will be flashing. The tempo range is between 30 – 280. ACCOMP VOLUME 2. Press the « TEMPO+ » & the « TEMPO- » simultaneously to set to default tempo. 3. The piano will override the default tempo if you change the rhythm style while another style is already playing. 4. When pedal is assigned as TEMPO TAP (see FUNCTION menu for details), tempo can be adjusted by stepping on the pedal (see Pedal for details).

metronome Press the « FUNCTION » button to enter the METRONOME menu. Press the « NEXT » button to enter its sub-menu. LCD will display « Metronome OFF ». Use the DIAL, or the (+) & (-) buttons to select the metronome type between « Metronome: Voice » and « Metronome: Pad ». BACK NEXT Note: digital effects Press the « FUNCTION » button to enter the DIGITAL EFFECT menu. Press the « NEXT » button to enter its sub-menu. LCD will highlight « Reverb Type » and display «Reverb Level».
2. Reverb Level: The Reverb Level ranges from 1 to 127. Use the DIAL, the numerical keypad buttons 0-9, the (+) button, or the (-) button to adjust the level value. Press the « NEXT » button to select Tune Value /Touch Type /Voice R1 Octave /Voice R2 Octave /Voice L Octave /Pitch Bend Range /Split Point /Pedal Assign. Use the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons to select the UTILITY sub-menu. Press the « NEXT » button to enter the parameter setting. REST 1. Tune Value: Use the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons to adjust the Tune Value. The LCD will display the current value. The parameter range is from –50 to 50.
3. Voice R1 Octave: When in Voice R1 Octave setting, use the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons to adjust the Voice R1 Octave value. The LCD will display the current value. This function applies to the right hand side of the keyboard. The parameter range is –1 to 1. The default value is 0. Press the (+) & (-) buttons simultaneously to set the octave to default value. The Voice R1 Octave option can function after pressing the « DUAL » button & selecting « VOICE R1 ».
7. Split Point: This function enables the user to apply different Voices to the left & right hand sides of the keyboard by setting a Split Point. When in Split Point setting, the LCD will display the current Split Point value. This value may be changed via the (+) & (-) buttons or the numerical keypad. The Split Point parameter range is 1 to 88. The default value is 034.
BACK NEXT TEMPO VEL MEASURE BEAT MEMORY TICK O.T.S. 2. Receive: Select Receive sub menu. Press the « NEXT » button to enter the Receive channel setting. LCD will display the current Receive value. Use the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons to select the channel from 1 to 16 or ALL channels. The default value is ALL. 2. Keyboard: In the Keyboard setting, LCD displays « Voice R1 Volume / Voice R2 Volume / Voice L Volume » in rotation. The default values are 27 / 28 / 12 respectively. The value ranges from 0 to 31 and may be set with the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons. Pressing the (+) & (-) buttons simultaneously will turn off the volume value. Memory Memory allows you to save virtually all panel settings to a registered memory setting which can be instantly recalled by pressing a single button. bank 1. There are 8 Memory Banks with 6 setups each, providing a total of 48 storages, any of which can be recalled instantly during your performance. The default value is « Memory 1 Bank 1 ». BANK MEMORY TEMPO VEL MEASURE BEAT MEMORY TICK O.T.S. 2. The default value is English, though the language setting is not changed when the power is off.
data stored in memory 1. Voice Data - Voice: Voice R1, Voice R2, and Voice Lower. - Voice Effect: Touch Type, DSP On/Off, Sustain On/Off, Sustain On/Off, Harmony Type, Transpose Value - Function: Digital Effect Parameter, Utility Parameter. 2. ACCOMP Data - Style: Style Number, Tempo Parameter, ABC On/Off, Accomp Volume, Normal/Variation Status. - Function: Midi Parameter, Mixer Parameter. Freeze 1. Press the « FREEZE » button. The « FREEZE » flag will light up on the LCD.
4. The parameters stored in the OTS include VOICE R1, VOICE R2 and VOICE LOWER, plus their respective OCTAVE, VOLUME, CHORUS TYPE/LEVEL and REVERB TYPE/LEVEL values. Note: Pressing the « OTS » button will not insert the «Fill in» when the user’s song is being recorded. Pedal Various functions can be assigned to the footswitch connected to the SUSTAIN jack. The polarity of the footswitch can also be selected. foot switch Press the « FUNCTION » button to enter the « Utility » menu.
soft pedal When Pedal Assign is set to « Soft Pedal », stepping on the footswitch will produce the Soft effect. Release the footswitch to turn off the Soft effect. 0 start / stop pedal When Pedal Assign is set to « Start / Stop Pedal », the footswitch has the same function as the « START / STOP » button. 0 / tap pedal When Pedal Assign is set to « Tempo / Tap Pedal », the ACCOMP tempo will be automatically set as per the last two beats before the footswitch is pressed.
Synth The SYNTH function provides the tools for creating new tones. Simply select one of 328 tones available and edit it’s parameters to create your own original sound. 1. Press the « SYNTH » button. The « SYNTH » flag will appear on the LCD, while the User Voice number «USER Voice= 342» is displayed on the lattice area. Then, use the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons to select the desired User Voice number from 342-350 to store your own voice(s). SYNTH 2. Press the « NEXT » button.
5. Press the « SYNTH » button, or press the « NEXT » button and the « BACK » button simultaneously to exit the SYNTH function. The « SYNTH » flag on the LCD will go out. A name & corresponding User Voice number will display on the voice line of the lattice area. SYNTH BACK NEXT 6. All the SYNTH mode parameters can be memorised while the power is off. To reset the parameters to the default value, press the « STORE » & « SYNTH » buttons simultaneously while powering on the unit.
ALBUM There are preconfigured parameters available for a total of 100 album songs (see « Appendix 5: album list »). These parameters cannot be changed. They include VOICE R1 / VOICE R2 / DSP / ACCOMP TYPE / OCTAVE / HARMONY etc. Flash ALBUM 1. Press the « ALBUM » button. The « ALBUM » flag will light up on the LCD. ABC mode is activated and the SYNC START data entered. The name and number of the current song is highlighted on the upper line of the lattice area.
Record The ALBUM song list contains 2 songs named «User Song 1» & «User Song 2». These are 2 empty song programs on which the user can store his own song recordings. There is space on each song for 1 ACCOMP track & 4 MELODY tracks. Recorded data can be memorized while power is off. Press the « RECORD » & « PLAY » buttons simultaneously before turning on the power. All the recorded data will be cleared. Note: • Record facility does not function while piano is in User Voice mode.
Note: • You may simultaneously select an ACCOMP track with a MELODY track, but you cannot select 2 MELODY tracks at the same time. • MELODY 1 is automatically set to current track while it is in waiting mode. If the first MELODY includes data, the second MELODY is set to record automatically. • If the selected track already includes data, it’s corresponding cursor is lit up on the LCD. Press the track button while it is in waiting mode. The cursor on the LCD will switch itself off.
record play 1. Song Select Press the « PLAY » button. LCD will display User Song 1 or 2. You can select the desired song with the DIAL, or the (+) & (-) buttons. PLAY 2. Track Select Having selected the desired User Song, select the tracks with the « MELODY 1-4 » buttons and the « ACCOMP » button. The highlighted cursor indicates the track that is about to be played. If the cursor does not light up, it indicates that the track in question is empty.
SMC Press the « LOAD », « SAVE » & « UTILITY » buttons separately to enter the relative function. The « SMC » flag will light up on the LCD. If there is no card, « Invalid SM Card » will display for three seconds, then exit & return to the previous status 3.3 SMC Faucet SMC LOAD UTILITY SAVE 3.3V CARD Note: • The SSP-830 can only read 16, 32, 64 or 128 MB SMC, excluding 8 MB cards. load file - Press the « LOAD » button. The « SMC » flag will be highlighted on the LCD.
Press the « NEXT » button. All the MIDI files contained in the SMC will be displayed on the lattice area, with the name of the current file highlighted. This will include 8 characters. The postfix name is MID. The required MIDI file may be selected with the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons. NEXT Press the « START/STOP » button to play the selected file. The « SMC » flag will flash on the LCD, while the current tempo is displayed on the TEMPO area. The MEASURE and the BEAT areas display nothing.
• If the tick number of one beat is over 960 or below 24, «File Format Error» will be displayed temporarily on LCD and the piano will exit SMC mode. • If the file is not in a MIDI format, « Not Midi File » will be displayed temporarily on the LCD and the piano will exit SMC mode. 2. Load Memory File Select the «Load Memory File» menu & press the « NEXT » button. All the memory files contained in the SMC are displayed on the lattice area with the active file highlighted.
Press the « NEXT » button to affirm the desired file. The « Load Into Record 1 » & « Load Into Record 2 » menus will be displayed on the lattice area with the current one highlighted. They can be selected with the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons. NEXT Press the « NEXT » button. The data will be loaded into the user song 1 or 2. « Operation Completed » will be displayed temporarily on the LCD, while piano exits SMC function and returns to previous status.
2. Save Song File Select the « Save Song » menu & press the « NEXT » button. The « Save Song 1 » & « Save Song 2 » menus will be displayed on the lattice area in 2 lines. Select the menu with the DIAL or the (+) & (-) buttons. NEXT Then press the « NEXT » button. « A____.REC » is displayed on the lattice area. The letter A flashes, indicating the input state (for input method see « 3. File Name Input » below). NEXT Press the « NEXT » button again to end the data input.
Note: • If the filename input corresponds to the name contained in the SMC, « Exist File Name » will be displayed temporarily on the lattice area, while the piano exits the SMC mode to return to its previous status. • If there is nothing to input, « Invalid File Name » is displayed temporarily on the lattice area, while the piano exits SMC mode to return to its previous status.
Note: If there is no file in the SMC, LCD will display «No File Found». You may return to previous menu by pressing the « BACK » button. NEXT 2. Format Select the « Format » menu & press the « NEXT » button. « Are You Sure? » will be displayed on the lattice area. 0 NEXT Press the « NEXT » or (+) button to confirm. The card will be formatted. «Operation Completed» will be displayed temporarily on the LCD, while the piano exits SMC mode to return to its previous state.
MIDI what is midi MIDI is a common abbreviation of Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is a standard interface for communication between a computer and digital musical instruments. There are two MIDI standard interfaces in the piano, MIDI IN & MIDI OUT ports. midi connection MIDI connection applies to the « master », which in turn controls the «slave» The master unit’s MIDI OUT connects with the slave unit’s MIDI IN.
Help The HELP function provides a simple operational guide for the current status. The HELP function can be accessed by pressing and holding down the « HELP » button. Related contents are displayed on the lattice area, before it switches automatically to the next screen for a while. You may browse the following or previous contents with the « NEX »T or « BACK » buttons, or the DIAL. To exit HELP function and return to previous status, simply release the « HELP » button.
Utility Save Record Press (+/Y), (-/N) button to select current menu level. Press « NEXT » to turn to current option. Press « BACK » to return to higher level menu. To delete the file Press (+/Y),(-/N), or use the DIAL to select file. Press « NEXT » to confirm if deleting or formatting the file. To format the SMC Press « NEXT » to confirm the operation. Press « BACK » to exit operation. Press « SAVE » button to save files to SMC Press (+/Y), (-/N) button to select current menu level.
