Symptom: Ethernet LED flashing, connected directly to PC (Windows). 1. Check that the IP address of the network interface is either: ● Set to “Obtain an IP address automatically” ○ ● The "obtain an IP address automatically" setting can take up to 3 minutes to choose an AutoIP address. To eliminate this delay, use a static IP address: Set to a static IP address in the range of 169.254.x.x (eg. 169.254.1.10) with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. Leave the gateway blank. 2.
Tuners not found by DVR software (Windows): Check 1: HDHomeRun Setup Run HDHomeRun Setup. Check that two tuners are shown. ● If no tuners are shown - see section on “HDHomeRun not found (HDHomeRun Software)”. Check 2: MCE 2005 specific requirements ● MCE 2005 requires an Analog/NTSC TV tuner adapter to be present before it will allow a digital tuner to be detected. Check that a Analog/NTSC TV tuner is installed and working. ● ● Vista, TV Pack 2008, and 7 do not require an analog tuner to be present.
Symptom: Some channels do not have remap numbers in the channel editor. There is a 68 channel limit to the number of channels that can be remapped. Un-tick the enable check box on less interesting channels so that the total number of enabled channels is 68 or less. Symptom: MCE TV Setup Wizard reports digital channels above 2000. This situation is triggered by an analog source with channel numbers above 1000. The digital stations have been moved from 1000+ to 2000+ by MCE.
Advanced: Custom guide numbers. The HDHomeRun channel editor defaults to generating channel numbers starting from 80.1 (1801 in MCE). The advanced mode in the HDHomeRun editor allow these numbers be be user-specified. The guide number can be entered in any one of three forms: ATSC . form (eg 22.3) Cable channel number (eg 223) MCE channel number (eg 1223) Numbering rules: ATSC major must be in the range of 1 to 99. ATSC minor must be in the range of 1 to 9.
Symptom: Channels are disabled after a scan in HDHomeRun Setup HDHomeRun Setup automatically disables any channels with duplicate names to ensure proper support in SageTV. 1. Open HDHomeRun Setup and update channel names so that no two channels have the same name. 2. Click Apply, then OK. 3. Open SageTV. 5. Go into Channel Setup in SageTV and perform a channel scan, repeating it for the second tuner if both tuners are being used.
Check 1 - Record vs playback. The first thing to determine is if the recording itself contains a glitch, or if the problem was caused by playback. A misconfiguration of the PVR application/codec or a complicated onscreen display can cause glitches that are only seen on playback through the PVR application. Make a recording of the problem channel in your DVR application (or use an existing recording that shows the symptom). Try playing the same file in VLC.
Symptom: Playing a recording in DVR software has video errors. Playing same recording in VLC works. If a recording is made by the DVR software and plays error-free in VLC then the problem is most likely with the MPEG2 video codec or video drivers. ● Check the nVidia/ATI/Intel website for the latest drivers for your video card. ● XP / MCE 2005: Check the video (MPEG2) codec by using the following utility: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.
