INTRODUCTION The Sharp FEW-150 Facsimile Transceiver is a compact, desktop digital unit. The purpose of this manual is to assist users with the machine’s operating procedures. All of the FEW-150 features can be easily learned by following the step-by-step procedures given in the following pages. PRECAUTIONS 1. Installation Install the machine on a level surface. . Keep the machine away from air conditioners, heaters, direct sunlight, humidity, and dust. . Provide easy access to the front, back, and sides of the machine. . Avoid locations where the transceiver may be splashed by water or chemicals. . A telephone must be located near the machine. . A 220 VAC, Czech isolated and grounded (three-prong) outlet is required. .

Audible Alarms Use this key to start transmission, receive operation in the manual mode, or copying. In both cases, the MICROSCOPY lamp fulminates. In the initial program mode, this key works as the enter key. These keys are used to the initial program mode. The % key works as the clear entry key. Select automatic receive mode or manual receive mode by pressing this key.
10 INITIAL REGISTRATION Initial programming is required to activate functions of the FEW-150, The following settings can be programmed at the time of initial registration. ® TTI (Date, Time, Sender’s Phone Number, and Sender's name) ® User switch 1. TTI (Date, Time, Sender’s Phone Number, and Sender's Name) DATE AND TIME SETTINGS The date and time are set at the time of facsimile installation. To change the setting after installation, follow the procedure described below.
INITIAL REGISTRATION 1 SENDER’S PHONE NUMBER AND SENDER’S NAME The input of sender's phone number and sender’s name must be performed by the installing technician. If the machine — after moving — is connected to a different line, contact the authorized service to carry out the change of the number. Postal Regulation! TRANSMITTABLE DOCUMENTS 16 CAUTIONS IN TRANSMITTING DOCUMENTS « Documents written in yellow, yellow green, or light blue ink cannot be transmitted. » Ink, glue, and correcting fluid on documents must be dry before the documents are transmitted. » Al clips, staples, and pins must be removed from a document before transmission. 3. When setting more than 2 documents, please set 1st page on the document feeder and put on rest of documents next, {Up to 10 pages.) Select the proper mode setting for your document. (Refer to “MODE Key Setting” on page 16.) . Pick up the telephone handset and dial the receiving unit.
18 OPERATING PROCEDURE 5. After the facsimile answer back tone is heard, press the START key. Hang up the handset when the COMM/ COPY lamp lights ug. Transmission starts. ¢ |t the remote unit is in the manual receive mode, your unit enters voice communication made. Ask the remote unit to press the START key, and press the START key after confirming the facsimile answer back tone. 6. End of transmission. The tone will sound for 1 second and the machine will return to the standby mode.
OPERATING PROCEDURE 19 2. Reception AUTOMATIC RECEIVE MODE In this mode, your facsimile unit operates without any operator intervention. 1. Make sure that the AUTO lamp is on. the AUTO lamp is not on, press the AUTO key to select the AUTO RECEIVE mode. 2. The auto receive mode is now selected. Operation starts automatically upon receipt of an incoming calk The MICROSCOPY lamp is lighted up. 3.
20 OPERATING PROCEDURE MANUAL RECEIVE MODE In the manual receive mode, the unit can also be used as an ordinary telephone. Make sure that the AUTO lamp is off. 1. Pick up the handset when the telephone rings You can now speak 1o the person on the other end of the line as In a normal telephone call. If the transmitting is made in the automatic dial mode, automatic dial tone can be heard. 2.

Voice Communication-Tate Function The tat mode can be initiated from either the transmitting or receiving side, so that it may be used to identify or make verbal contact with the other end. This function is available in G3 mode only. VOICE COMMUNICATION DURING AND AFTER OPERATION 1. Polling CONDITIONS FOR POLLING With the polling function, one facsimile unit is able to activate a remote facsimile unit so that documents can be sent from the remote unit without an operator being on hand. POLLING TRANSMISSION This function is used to transmit document from your facsimile unit by operating a remote facsimile, 1. Set the automatic receive mode. (Make sure that the AUTO lamp is on.) 2. OPERATING PROCEDURE POLLING RECEPTION 23 This function is used to receive documents at a remote facsimile unit. The remote machine must be capable of the polling function and be set in the auto receive mode. 1. ~ Call the remote unit. Wait for the facsimile unit's answer back tone. Press the TALK and MODE keys together. . Reception After the MICROSCOPY tamp has illuminated, hang up the handset. . Completion of reception A tone sounds for 1 second and your facsimile unit then enters the standby rode.

However, when you dial a telephone number for a facsimile operation and the remote machine does not have a TTI function, the communication mode is printed out on the receivership report in place of the remote machine’s telephone number.

Transmit Terminal Identification (TTI) This function allows your facsimile unit to automatically print information related 1o the sender of the facsimile transmission on the top line of the incoming page. 28 MAINTENANCE BY OPERATOR 1. Replacing the Recording Paper, Cautions REPLACING THE RECORDING PAPER Always check the amount of remaining recording paper through the recording paper window. When the PAPER lamp is illuminating, reception is no longer possible. Immediately replace the paper roll with a new one. 1. The PAPER lamp illuminates. 30 MAINTENANCE 8Y OPERATOR 6. Close the paper compartment cover by pushing down on the center of the cover by the arrow. A clicking sound indicates that the cover is properly closed. 7. Turn on the POWER switch. 8. Check that the PAPER lamp is not on. 9. Press the START key, and a small amount of the paper emerges. Tear off the recording paper. |t the recording paper does not exit, set the recording paper roll again. The last one meter of the recording paper has a black line in the right edge.
MAINTENANCE BY OPERATOR 3 CAUTIONS ON HANDLING RECORDING PAPER Pay attention to the following items when using the heat-sensitive recording paper for the FEW-150 facsimile unit. @ Do not keep the recording paper in a place subject to high humidity or temperature, Sine the heat-sensitive recording paper at temperatures no higher than 40°C (104°F) and a humidity no higher than 85%.
32 MAINTENANCE BY OPERATOR 2. Available Consumable Parts The following consumable parts are available for the FEW-150 facsimile unit. For ‘longer, more effective use of this machine, these specified consumable parts are recommended. ¢ Recording paper: FO-20PRE 216mm wide, 30m long roof (6 rolls per carton) 3. Cleaning CLEANING THE RECORDING HEAD A clean recording head will improve the printing performance of your facsimile unit. Sometimes paper dust on the recording head may cause an unclear reproduction.
38 TROUBLE SHOOTING If the machine fails to work properly, check for the cause by following these directions.
