Types of Disc that can be played on Your DVD Player The unit can play back discs bearing any of the following marks: DVD [8 cm disc/12 cm disc] Video CDs [8 cm disc/12 cm disc] See See See 1 2 3 See 2 • Supports version until version 2.0. Types of Disc that can be played on Your DVD Player 2 • The specific playback functionality for some DVD and video CD discs is determined by the disc manufacturer. Because this DVD player plays disc data in accordance with the disc manufacturer’s guidelines, some functions may not be available on some discs. Be sure to read the instructions provided with the disc. The “Prohibited” icon ø displayed during DVD player operation indicates that manufacturerimposed restrictions apply.
Selecting the Type of Disc for the Type of Connected TV Both DVD discs and video CDs have the material recorded in the PAL and NTSC* systems. Remote Control Preparation Inserting the Batteries First, install the batteries as detailed below. Fit two R6 (UM/SUM-3 or AA) 1.5 volt batteries (included) or equivalent. If the remote control stops working, insert new batteries. Ensure the batteries are inserted correctly, matching the polarities (±/—) indicated in the remote control. • Do not subject the remote control to shock, water or excessive humidity.
Basic Connection • Set the power switch on the player and equipment to be connected to OFF before connecting. • Read through the Operation manual for the equipment to be connected. • Be sure that the colours of the connectors and plugs match up when connecting the cord. Display Information Operation Mode Indicators The display on the TV screen switches from “AUTO” to “ON” to “OFF” and back to “AUTO” each time the DISPLAY button on the remote control is pressed. • AUTO mode — Displayed for 3 seconds when operation begins. • ON mode — Displayed continually until the operation mode is changed. • OFF mode — Not displayed.
DVD Playback Preparations • Switch on the TV set’s power, and select “VIDEO” as the TV input. Refer to the operation manual for your TV for details. • Switch on the stereo system’s power if the DVD player has been connected to a stereo system. VCD (Video CD) and CD (Audio CD) Playback Preparations To prepare for playing DVD discs, perform steps 1 to 4 in “Basic Play” (page 22). Playing Video CDs with Playback Control (PBC) • Pressing û PLAY begins PBC playback.
