Basic Operation Your audio system works when the ignition switch is in the “ACC” or “ON” position. If the Audio screen does not display, press [POWER]. (Refer to page 8.) NOTICE To avoid draining the battery, do not leave the car audio on longer than necessary when the engine is not running. Audio operations are carried out by either of the operations explained below.
• The Operations of the Keys Near the Display Touch this button to pause playback and to mute the sound. Touch it again to resume playback and turn the sound back on. The exact operations depend on the source. Refer to the operations procedures for the source. Each time you touch this button, the functions of the MULTI KNOB and POWER button change as indicated below. • Steering Switch Operations This section contains an explanation regarding audio-related operations involving utilization of the steering switch. 1 [MODE] Each time this button is pressed, the source changes in the order indicated below. Listening to the RADIO Listen to the AM and FM radio, HD Radio and XM Satellite Radio by following the instructions below. Refer to Listening to the HD Radio broadcast (page 20) for details regarding the unique features of the HD Radio receiver. Refer to Listening to a XM Satellite Radio broad cast (page 22) for details regarding the unique features of XM Satellite Radio. When receiving an AM/FM signal, this is in the DX position.
• Changing the Frequency Manually Touch [ ] and then, after changing the MULTI KNOB to Tune/Scroll mode, turn the MULTI KNOB to the right to increase the frequency and to the left to decrease the frequency. • If the volume fluctuates, touch [ ] to change to the Tune/Scroll mode, where you can change the frequency. • Searching for Frequencies That Can Be Tuned In Touch either [ ] or [ ] to search in either ascending or descending order for stations that can be tuned in.
• Searching for, and listening to broadcasts of preferred genres (Only for FM/HD Radio) Each time you touch [Options] [], the various PTY genres will flash on and off. If you touch on the genre that you want to listen to while the PTY genres are flashing on and off, the system will search stations that can be tuned in and which offer broadcasts corresponding to the PTY genres that you are interested in. Each time you touch [], the PTY genre display changes cyclically.

Listening to the HD Radio broadcast HD Radio™ Technology is a terrestrial digital radio broadcast that utilizes AM/FM analogue broadcasting frequencies to transmit digital signals. For information regarding viewing methods, refer to Listening to the RADIO (page 16). This section contains explanations solely regarding HD Radio broadcast functions.
• Storing Song Information that is Being Tuned In on HD Radio Broadcast If you touch [Tag] while the HD Radio broadcast signal is being received, the tag information of the song that being broadcast is stored. Sometimes when songs are being toggled and the like, tag information cannot be accessed very effectively or multiple tags are recorded.
Listening to a XM Satellite Radio broadcast A satellite radio channel, XM Satellite Radio is immensely popular in the United States. Because the entire US is covered as far as signal reception goes, one can cross the entire country without losing a signal, and thus a user can continue to listen to the same program without interruption the entire way.

Listening to a CD You can listen to CDs using the methods explained below. CAUTION Compact disc players use an invisible laser beam which could cause hazardous radiation exposure if directed outside the unit. Be sure to operate the player correctly. NOTICE • Never try to disassemble or oil any part of the compact disc player. Do not insert anything except a compact disc into the slot. • Use 12-cm disc. Do not use 8-cm disc or an adapter for 8-cm disc.
• Loading the CD Load a CD in the disc slot. The CD will begin to play. • Taking Out the CD A quick method for selecting the previous or next song Touch [ ] to change the MULTI KNOB to Tune/Scroll mode, then turn MULTI KNOB to the left to begin playback of the previous song. Listening to a MP3/ WMA Disc and USB Portable Audio Player/USB Memory Explanations regarding how to use your MP3/WMA disc and USB PORTABLE Audio Player/USB Memory are contained below. • Handling MP3/WMA discs Load a MP3/WMA disc. Load a MP3/WMA disc in the disc slot. The MP3/WMA disc will begin to play. About handling the iPod • This unit supports only an iPod featuring the Dock connector port. • Operations may vary depending on the software version of iPod. • The iPod Equalizer set by the iPod is forcibly turned off. • The Shuffle function of the iPod is operated as Random on this unit. CAUTION • Store the data into another media, to avoid losing the data during iPod operation with this unit. • Do not allow direct sunlight to fall on the iPod when it is not being used.
Connecting the iPod Connect the USB connector. Connect the iPod as indicated in the figure below using an optional cable. Push the Dock connector into the Dock connector port until you hear a click to connect firmly. If it does not go in smoothly, it may be upside down so do not force it in as this may result in damage. *1 It is recommended to use a USB cable which satisfies USB 2.0 standards. (Measurements should satisfy USB 2.0 standards) *2 Connection location differs depending on the vehicle.
NOTICE • When you are using iPhone by the multitasking, according to the application under use, it might not be able to charge a battery. • When connecting a Bluetoothenabled iPod via the Dock connector, the iPod or Pandora may not produce any sound on this unit. Listening to the iPod An explanation regarding how to listen to your iPod is contained below. • Selecting Songs You can use any of the methods below to select songs from your iPod. Selecting the previous/next song Touch [ ] to return to the beginning of the song that is being played. Touch [ ] again to play back the previous song. Touch [ ] to play back the next song.
Selecting songs from the playlist Touch [Browse] to display the playlist table. Touch on the playlist using any of tabs indicated below and then select a method for searching for songs. Touch [<<] or [>>] to display the previous/next tabs. If you touch [ ] when the list is being displayed and then, after setting the MULTI KNOB to Tune/Scroll mode, turn the MULTI KNOB to the left, the cursor will move to the previous column. If you turn MULTI KNOB to the right, the cursor will advance to the next column.
[Genres] Switches over to the screen for searching for genres Touch [Genre Name] to display a list of genre names. Touch on the genre name and then the album name to display a list of the songs contained in the album. [Composers] Switches over to the screen for searching for composers Touch [Composer Name] to display a list of composer names. Listening to the Bluetooth Audio In order to listen to Bluetooth audio on this unit, you must first hook Bluetooth audio up to the system. An explanation regarding how to listen to Bluetooth audio is contained below. • Bluetooth audio that can be hooked up to the system The Bluetooth audio to be hooked up to the system must fulfill the following conditions. • Bluetooth device that loads A2DP. • Bluetooth Specification Version1.1 or higher (Version2.
• Registering Bluetooth Audio Device There are two methods for registering Bluetooth audio device to this system, both of which are explained below. If another Bluetooth audio device has already been connected, you will need to cancel this connection prior to beginning the registration process. You will mainly be working with your Bluetooth audio device to register it with the system. For details, see the user manual for your Bluetooth audio device. Sending your pass key for registration 1.
Selecting tracks from the tracklist Touch [Track List] and then touch on the file that you want to listen to. [Tracks] and [Browse] only display when AVRCP Ver. 1.4 or greater devices are connected. Selecting files from the folder: [Browse] Touch on the folder to display the files contained inside the folder. Touch [ ] while the tracklist/playlist is being displayed to display the previous page. Listening to Pandora internet radio Pandora is an internet radio service that utilizes an extensive music database and song-matching algorithms to provide personalized radio.
• iPhone data plan. Note: if the data plan for your iPhone does not provide for unlimited data usage, additional charges from AT&T may apply if you access the Pandora service via AT&T’s 3G and/or EDGE networks after exceeding your maximum monthly data usage. • Connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE or WiFi network. • Refer to Connecting the iPod (page 31) for information regarding how to connect iPhone.
[ ] Gives the song being played back a Thumbs DOWN, which is sent to the server via iPhone. When a song is given a Thumbs DOWN, the next song begins. A song receiving a Thumbs DOWN will not be played in the future on the station you are listening to. If the Track UP restriction number is exceeded, even songs receiving Thumbs DOWN continue to be played back.

Watching the VTR You can connect Audio/Video devices to the system and watch the VTR. An explanation on VTR viewing is contained below. • VTR Viewing on a Full Screen Touch [ ] on the A/V Source Operations Screen to set the VTR screen to full screen. To display the standard screen, touch on the screen.
• Setting up the VTR Touch [Options] to display the Options Menu. Touch on any of the below to set up the VTR. [Normal] Input images are displayed at a 4:3 ratio. [Wide1] Input images are uniformly enlarged horizontally for display. [Wide2] Input images are uniformly enlarged vertically for display. • Adjusting VTR Image Quality • Changing to Wide Mode Touch [Wide] to display the screen for switching over to wide mode.
[Color] [Tone] Each time you touch [+], the display tint increases up to a maximum level of 5. The higher the tint level, the more blue the display appears. Each time you touch [–], the display tint decreases to a minimum level of -5. The lower the tint level, the more red the display appears. Each time you touch [+], the display tone increases up to a maximum level of 5. Each time you touch [–], the display tone decreases up to a minimum level of -5.
Connecting an external amplifier When you connect an external amplifier to RCA connectors, please install according to the amplifier manual. CAUTION • A standard speaker's input is rated 17.5 W input (largest 40 W input). When an amplifier is connected to the RCA output, make sure to change the speaker that corresponds to the output. If you connect to a standard speaker, this may cause to catch fire, emit smoke, or cause damage.
Using the AUX By inserting a mini plug into the AUX adapter, you can listen to music from a portable audio device through the vehicle’s speaker system. CAUTION When using a portable audio device connected to the power outlet or cigarette lighter, noise may occur during playback. If this happens, use the power source of the portable audio device.
NOTICE • If the mini plug of a commercially available cable connected to a portable audio or other component is not connected to the car AUX adapter, the mode will not change to the AUX mode. • Volume level when playing a component connected with a mini plug differs to that when listening to the built-in CD player or radio so please make adjustments. • If you install an audio system other than a Scion Genuine Audio, you will not be able to use the AUX adapter. • Muting the AUX audio Touch [ ].
Setting Up Audio-Visual Touch [ ] to display the Setup menu. You can then establish various settings using the Setup menu. • Setting Up the Display Touch [Display] on the Setup menu to display the Display Settings menu. Adjusting the Image Quality of the Display or Camera After touching [General] or [Camera], touch either of the settings below to establish them. You can set this item, when the camera is connected. [Contrast] Each time you touch [+], the display or camera contrast level increases up to a maximum level of 5. Each time you touch [–], the display or camera contrast level decreases up to a minimum level of -5.

• Setting Up the System Touch [System] on the Setup menu to display the SYSTEM Settings menu and then touch on the settings that follow to set them up. Utilizing/Not utilizing the subwoofer Touch [Subwoofer Setting] and then touch [ON] or [OFF]. [ON] [OFF] With this setting, the subwoofer is activated. With this setting, the subwoofer is not activated. • Setting Up the Vehicle Type Touch [Type of Vehicle Setting] and then touch one of the following.
Setting Up the Sound Quality Touch on [ ] for each mode screen to display the SOUND SETTINGS MENU. On the SOUND SETTINGS MENU, a variety of settings related to sound quality can be established. • Setting the Sound Quality Touch [ ] on the Sound Settings menu to display the Sound Settings menu and then touch on the settings that follow to set them up. After establishing the settings, touch [OK] to return to the previous screen. [TREBLE] [–] or [+] Used to adjust highpitched tones.
[Advanced Sound Retriever] The Advanced Sound Retriever function provides a wide, deep and rich quality to CD/MP3/WMA/USB/ iPod sound, which gives the user a lively impression. Establish the Advanced Sound Retriever mode by touching either [Low Rate] or [High Rate]. Touch [Off] to deactivate the Advanced Sound Retriever. 56 56 NOTICE • The Advanced Sound Retriever function can only be selected when playing MP3/ WMA from CD and iPod, USB portable audio player/USB memory.
• Establishing the SSP (Scion Sound Processing) Mode SSP is a modified DSP (Digital Signal Processing) system that provides a customized sound for your vehicle. Touch [SSP] on the Sound Settings menu to display the SSP Settings Menu. Touch [SSP Settings] and touch one of the following to establish the SSP mode. [SSP Natural] [SSP Hear] [SSP Feel] Natural and smooth sound that gives no listening fatigue but comfort. A powerful, energetic, live sound.
Connecting a Bluetooth Cell Phone You can connect a Bluetoothenabled cell phone to the system and enjoy hands-free phoning. You can also use your cell phone for regular calls with the Bluetooth connection. WARNING Before connecting the cell phone, always stop your car in a safe location. 58 58 NOTICE • A Bluetooth-enabled cell phone that supports the HFP profile is required for the operations explained here.
Sending your pass key for registration 1. Touch [ ] [Bluetooth] [Connect Phone] [Add New]. If a device has already been connected, a screen will appear seeking confirmation of whether this connection is to be cancelled or not. Touch [YES]. 2. Using the Bluetooth cell phone, search for the Bluetooth-enabled device and then select this unit ([CAR MULTIMEDIA]). 3. Send the Passkey that appears on the screen from the Bluetooth cell phone to the system.
Using Hands-Free Phoning Explanations regarding how to use hands-free phoning appear below. You will be ale to maintain direct control of your cell phone even when using hands-free phoning. • Making Calls Touch [ ] to display the Phone screen. You can make outgoing calls using the PHONE screen. * This is the same as pressing [Off Hook] on the steering switch. When the phone and the microphone are not connected, it is not possible to make a call.
Making calls to selected contacts Contacts includes data such as phone numbers and names that are imported from the address book of the cell phone to the system. To use Contacts, you must first import the cell phone data – which will function as contact information – to the system. (Refer to Editing Contact s on page 64.) 1. Touch [Contacts] on the Phone screen. 2. Touch the desired person’s name on the Contacts screen. * Touch [Transfer] to import the Contacts (Refer to page 64).
Taking Phone Calls The following screen appears when a call comes in. • The Steering Switch (On Hook/ Off Hook) and Microphone After connecting the hands-free device, you can use the steering switch for simple hands-free phoning operations. (Off Hook) [ [ ] ] [Volume] Use to answer the phone. Use to hang up without answering the phone. Use to adjust the ring volume. Touch [+] to increase the volume; touch [–] to decrease the volume.
[0-9] [Mute] [Handsfree Mode] Use this to forward the tone data. Input the tone data and touch [Send]. Mutes the dial tone. Touch this to change to hands-free phoning when directly manipulating the cell phone during a call. • Changing to a Phone That Will be Connected to the System Up to five Bluetooth devices can be registered to the system. You can switch the phone to be used for hands-free phoning to another phone that has been registered.
Using the Phonebook In this manual, Phonebook is an all-inclusive term that refers to the following components. • Contacts, which are made up of phone numbers and other data imported from the address book of the cell phone. • Speed Dial: this function registers phone numbers that are used frequently so that they can be called up easily. • Call History: this is a record of outgoing calls, incoming calls and missed calls.
• Editing Speed Dial Entries The Speed Dial function allows you to quickly call up frequently dialed phone numbers. You can register up to 18 phone numbers on Speed Dials. 2. Touch the location you want to register on the Select Speed Dial Location screen. [New Speed Registers Speed Dial Dial from entries from Contacts. Contacts] First touch the contact that you want to register and then touch the number you want to register.
Using Voice Recognition at <0 – 9/800> With the voice recognition function, you can control the system using only your voice. NOTICE • When using voice recognition, close the windows and take other steps to eliminate background noise. • You don’t need to talk directly into the microphone; your voice will successfully reach the microphone when you talk in a normal sitting position as you drive. 1.
MP3 and WMA files • MP3 is short for MPEG Audio Layer 3 and refers to an audio compression technology standard. • WMA is short for Windows Media™ Audio and refers to an audio compression technology that is developed by Microsoft Corporation. WMA data can be encoded by using Windows Media Player. • With some applications used to encode WMA files, this unit may not operate correctly. • With some applications used to encode WMA files, album names and other text information may not be correctly displayed.
WMA additional information • This unit plays back WMA files encoded by Windows Media Player. • You can only play back WMA files in the frequencies 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. • The sound quality of WMA files generally becomes better with an increased bit rate. This unit can play recordings with bit rates from 48 kbps to 320 kbps (CBR) or from 48 kbps to 384 kbps (VBR), but in order to be able to enjoy sound of a certain quality, we recommend using discs recorded with a higher bit rate.
• It is not possible to check folders that do not include MP3/WMA files. (These folders will be skipped without displaying the folder number.) • MP3/WMA files in up to 8 tiers of folders can be played back. However, there is a delay in the start of playback on discs and USB portable audio player/USB memory with numerous tiers. For this reason we recommend creating discs with no more than 2 tiers. • It is possible to play back up to 192 folders on one disc.
Terms ID3 Tag Packet write This is a general term for a method of writing on CD-R, etc. at the time required for a file, just as is done with files on floppy or hard discs. Bit rate This expresses data volume per second, or bps (bits per second) units. The higher the rate, the more information is available to reproduce the sound. Using the same encoding method (such as MP3), the higher the rate, the better the sound.
CD player and care • Use only CDs that have either of the two Compact Disc Digital Audio marks as shown below. • Use only normal, round CDs. If you insert irregular, non-round, shaped CDs they may jam in the CD player or not play properly. • Check all CDs for cracks, scratches or warping before playing. CDs that have cracks, scratches or are warped may not play properly. Do not use such discs. • Avoid touching the recorded (non-printed) surface when handling the disc.
• Playback of CD-R/CD-RW discs may become impossible in case of direct exposure to sunlight, high temperatures, or the storage conditions in the car. • Titles and other text information recorded on a CD-R/CD-RW disc may not be displayed by this unit (in the case of audio data (CD-DA)). • This unit conforms to the track skip function of the CD-R/CD-RW disc. The tracks containing the track skip information are skipped automatically (in case of audio data (CD-DA)).
Error indications If the CD player does not work, the CD stops suddenly during playback, or a similar problem occurs, an error indication will appear on the display. The cause of the trouble will be indicated by an error number, and you should check the corresponding item shown in the table below. Check DISC When the disc is dirty or has been inserted upside-down. Check the disc. DISC Error There is probably an electrical or mechanical fault in the CD player.
When problems occur while the iPod is connected to this unit, a message will appear on the display. Refer to the table below to identify the problem, then take the suggested corrective action.
