Instructions for measuring your TV
It is very important to correctly match your television with your furniture. Using the
screen diagonal measure helps get you "into the ballpark." However, with all the
different technologies available with today's TVs, it is necessary to measure and
compare. Using a TV that is too large or too heavy for the furniture item can create a
safety hazard.
It is easy to make sure that your TV will properly match the furniture item. You need to
answer two questions:
Is the TV the correct weight?
This is a very important consideration from a safety standpoint.
Every Product Page shows the "TV Weight Limit." The television must
weigh less than this limit.
Television weights can typically be found in the TV owners' manuals. They
are also available on the TV manufacturers' websites.
Most standard technology TVs will weigh much less than the weights we
associate with given sizes. (For example, a standard 32-inch TV will generally
weigh less than 135 pounds.)
Be careful! Some TVs - particularly those using wide screen or flat screen
technology - may weigh far more than other standard technology TVs having the
same diagonal screen size. In many cases, these heavier TVs will need to be
used with furniture items having heavier weight limits - even if the TV "fits" in the
available space.
Will the TV fit?
Measure the height and width of the complete television cabinet - not just
the picture tube.
Compare those measurements to the TV opening dimensions shown on
each detailed product page.
The TV must be smaller than the opening dimensions given for the furniture
item. Remember, even if the TV will fit in the space provided, it must never be
used if it weighs more than the specified weight limit identified for that particular
furniture product.
