Edge screen Water and dust resistance The Galaxy S7 edge is equipped with the Edge screen feature, which provides a variety of useful tools. For more information, see “Edge screen” on page 27. This device is rated IP68 using the Ingress Protection rating system. Flexible security For more information, see “Maintaining water and dust resistance” on page 194. Set up your device Learn how to set up your device for the first time.
Assemble your device Charge the battery Install a SIM card and an optional memory card (not included), and charge your device before using. Your device is powered by a rechargeable battery. A charger (charging head and USB Type-C cable) is included with the device for charging the battery from Install a SIM card and memory card any standard outlet. When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card. You may be able to use your previous SIM card.
Start using your device 1. Insert the USB Type-C cable into the USB charger/Accessory port. The instructions below explain how to turn your device on or off. To turn the device on: u Press and hold the Power key until the device turns on. To turn the device off: 1. Press and hold the Power key. 2. Tap Power off, and confirm when prompted. 2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet. 3.
Use the Setup Wizard Lock or unlock your device The first time you turn your device on, the Setup Wizard guides you through the basics of setting up your device. Use your device’s screen lock features to secure your device. By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out. Follow the prompts to choose a default language, ® connect to a Wi-Fi network, set up accounts, choose location services, learn about your device’s features, and more. To lock the device: u Press the Power key.
Add a Google account Add a Samsung account ™ Your new device uses your Google account to fully ™ utilize its Android features. View the Notification panel Quick settings You can access the Notification panel from any screen. The Notification panel also provides quick access to device functions, allowing you to quickly turn them on or off. 1. Drag the Status bar down to display the Notification panel. 1. Apps edge – Position: Choose either Right or Left to set which side the Edge screen displays on. People edge • To create a shortcut for two apps to open in ™ Multi window , tap Create app pair. People edge allows you to quickly communicate with contacts in your My people list. • To create a folder shortcut, drag an app from the left side of the screen on top of an app in the columns on the right. 1. Smart select Edge lighting The Smart select feature captures an area of the screen as an image or animation that you can share or pin to the screen. Fingerprint scanner Fingerprint management Use fingerprint recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your fingerprint to verify your identity when logging in Add, delete, and rename fingerprints. 1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps. 2. Tap to your Samsung account. Multi window Multitask by using two apps at the same time. Apps that support Multi window can be displayed together on a split screen. You can switch between the apps and adjust the size of their windows. 1. From any screen, touch and hold a Recent apps. 2. Window controls Multi window settings The Window controls modify the way app windows are displayed in split screen view. Additional features are available for Multi window. 1. Emergency mode Emergency mode features Use Emergency mode to access helpful emergency features and conserve your device’s power during an emergency situation. While in Emergency mode, only the following apps and features are available on the Home screen: l To save battery power, Emergency mode: l l l Restricts application usage to only essential applications and those you select. l Turns off connectivity features and Mobile data when the screen is off.
l l l Estimated usage time remaining: Display Turn off Emergency mode estimated standby time that can be reached based on current battery charge and usage. When emergency mode is turned off, the device returns to standard mode. Emergency call: Dial the emergency telephone number (for example, 911). Apps Learn how to change the way apps are displayed, organize apps into folders, and install, uninstall, disable, or hide apps.
Use apps Add an apps shortcut The Apps list displays all preloaded and downloaded apps. You can uninstall, disable, or hide apps from view. The Clock app offers features for keeping track of time and setting alarms. • Alarm sound: Choose a sound to play for the alarm, and drag the slider to set the volume of the alarm. 1. Use the keypad and tap Hours, Minutes, and Seconds to set the length of the Timer. 4. Tap Start to begin the Timer. • To temporarily stop the Timer, tap Pause. To continue timing after pausing, tap Resume. • To stop and reset the Timer, tap Cancel.
